  • *** The approach by the observer is to demonstrate genuine concern for the worker’s health and safety. Observers should focus on good practices as well as identifying unsatisfactory practices. Observations should be short and take no more than 15 mins. Review past observations for the area of work, and previous actions. Use consultation and discussion to identify action and gain commitment from workers to change work habits. ***

POSITION OF PEOPLE

  • o Body posture, twisting turning, straining, pushing pulling, over exertion using excessive force, two man lift required?<br>o Exposure to slip / trip / fall hazards?<br>o Can the Worker(s) identify the potential hazards/risks in their area?

PROCEDURES

  • o Are procedures known and understood?<br>o Is there a PPE procedure for the site?<br>o Has the worker been trained in the Procedure for PPE? <br>o Is it being followed?

WORK PRACTICES

  • o Are earplugs fitted properly or just sitting in the ear?<br>o Are Gloves being used when handling material, parts, or tools?<br>o Are glasses worn covering the eye properly or sitting to low or to high on face?

HOUSEKEEPING

  • o Trip hazards or debris evident?<br>o Is the Worker attending to any spills, water, slippery surfaces?<br>o Is the Worker(s) storing objects, tools, electrical leads or product in aisles, walkways and working areas that could pose a tripping hazard?

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

  • o Is the Worker(s) using old PPE equipment that needs replacing?<br>o Are the gloves being worn have the protection required for the hazard present?<br>o Are shirt sleeves rolled down and cuffs done up?

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

  • o Check Eyes & Face, Ears, Respiratory, Hands, arms, Feet & legs, trunk (is equipment being used appropriate, is it fit for purpose and in good condition)
