  • Safety Requirements Personnel Hoists


    1. Before placing a personnel hoist (Buck Hoist) into service, a drop test must be completed and satisfactory. An inspector employed by the enforcing authority shall witness inspections and load tests.
    2. No person shall be allowed to ride in or on the hoist, while an over speed test is performed. Weitz shall post a “NO Riders” sign at personnel hoist car.
    3. Only qualified and authorized operators shall operate personnel hoists. Weitz shall ensure the operators are knowledgeable and capable of performing the duties outlined in the inspection logs.
    4. All landing platforms where people may be exposed to falling objects shall be provided with solid overhead protection made of two inch (5.08cm) planking or equivalent.
    5. Hoist way landing entrance shall be marked. Marks shall consist of black and yellow stripes.
    6. A fire extinguisher shall be made available and a “No Smoking” sign shall be posted.
    7. Personnel Hoist cars shall have lighting at a minimum of 5-foot candles.
    8. Operators shall conduct a Daily Weitz Buck Hoist inspection.
    9. All personnel hoist deficiencies shall be reported to the Weitz Company immediately and machine shall be taken out of service.
    10. A quarterly inspection is required and shall be documented.

  • Trolley and car rollers ok?

Inspect Struts

  • Bolts and nuts in place?

Inspect power cord

  • Are there any visual tears or cuts?

Inspect doors

  • Doors in good condition?

Signs

  • Danger "No Riders allowed" sign posted?

Quarterly Inspection

  • Drop test conducted and passed?

General notes
