General requirements

  • Is the pool registered on the DLG swimming pool register?

  • Is the swimming pool surrounded by a child resistant barrier that separates the pool from any residential building situated on the premises?

  • Are buildings that are not associated to the pool such as a garage, carport, she'd, pergola, clothes line or the like, outside the pool area?

Pool barriers and Boundary fences

  • Is the pool fence and gate at least 1.2m in height?

  • Is the gap beneath the fence and gate measured no more than 100mm?

  • Are the horizontal bars of the pool barrier less than 100mm?

  • Do non-climb able zones extend 300mm into the pool area and 900mm outside the pool area?

  • Is there a minimum 900mm separation between the upper and lower horizontal components on the pool barrier?

  • Landscaping, associated lighting and other fixtures or furniture do not intrude into the NCZ?

  • Are handrails for any stairs forming part of the pool barrier at least 1200mm taken as an arc?

  • Do balconies adjacent to the pool that fall within the 900mm NCZ, and/or have direct stair access into the pool area, and/or have a distance (h3) of less than 1.8m above FGL of the pool area have a balustrade that complies with AS1926.1?

  • Do boundary fences that are used as part of the barrier comply?<br>Are they in a good state of repair?<br>Are they measured at 1.8m high on the inside of the pool area?<br>Is a 900mm inside NCZ provided if climb able from the outside?<br>Are the rails adequately protected?

  • Do external walls of the house that form part of the barrier comply?<br>Do windows leading into the pool area <1.8m above pool area FGL comply with the following?<br>* For windows where the height of the sill of the lowest opening is 900mm, the open portion is covered by <br> compliant bars or mesh, or are fixed to open NO more than 100mm<br>* For windows >900mm but 1.2m above the lowest opening panel, the open portion is covered by a fixed <br> fly screen, or are fixed to open NOMore than 100mm?

  • Is there a CPR chart within the immediate vicinity of the pool area?

Gates and Fittings

  • Do the gate/s open away from the pool?

  • Is the gate/s self-closing from any open position and clear of obstructions?

  • Is the latch at least 1.5m above finished ground level, or appropriately shielded?

  • Are gate hinges measured 900mm between hinges or have splayed tops?

  • The above matters should not be considered exhaustive and other works may be required to fully comply. It is recommended you engage a suitable contractor to review the existing pool area with a view of complying with the Swimming Pools Act 1992 and Australian Standard 1926.
