Material Safety Data Sheets

  • Are the MSDS's clearly visible and easy to read

  • Are the MSDS's easy to access incase of an emergency

  • Have all the staff members been adequately trained in the use of MSDS

  • Do all staff members know where to access the MSDS

  • Are the MSDS's complete with all the relevant information of each chemical

Labelling

  • Are all the chemical bottles clearly labelled

  • Are the labels visible and on display

  • Does the liquid in the bottle match the label

  • Has the staff been trained in what to do if the wrong chemical is put in to the bottle

Personal Protective Equipment

  • PPE- Gloves, aprons, face masks, goggles, shoes, uniforms

  • Is there an adequate supply of PPE for each staff member

  • Do the staff adhere to the policies and procedures

  • Is the PPE being properly maintained

Signs and Hazards

Signs

  • Do the signs comply with the regulations, policies and procedures

  • Are the signs being use appropriately

  • Is there an adequate supply of signs to be used when cleaning

Hazards

  • Are there procedures in place to prevent hazards from occurring

  • Are hazards being dealt with appropriately

  • Are there procedures in place for dealing with hazards, should they occur

Electrical Tags

  • Has all electrical tag checks been done

  • Does the asset maintenance officer know the procedure for organising the checks and tagging

  • Are all the checks up to date in accordance with the policies and procedures

Reports and Records

Incident Reports

  • Are the incident reports being filed appropriately

  • Are the incident reports being handled according to the company's policies and procedures

  • Is there a register of incidents

  • Do all staff have access to the forms

  • Are the forms stored in a central location in both hard and soft copy

  • Are the reports being filled out according to company standards

Cleaning Records

  • Is there sufficient documentation to support the cleaning performed

  • Are the cleaning reports being completed accurately

  • Is there a cleaning register

  • Do all staff have access to the register

Evacuation Procedures

Fire Extinguishers

  • Are the fire extinguishers placed appropriately

  • Do the staff members know where the fire extinguishers are located

  • Have the staff been trained in the use of the fire extinguishes

  • Are the fire extinguishers tested and maintained according to regulations

  • Have the correct fire extinguishers been installed

Fire Exits

Fire Warden

  • Has the company appointed a fire warden

  • Do the staff know who the fire warden is

  • Does the fire warden have the appropriate gear

  • Is there signage put up on the site to indicate who the fire warden is

  • Does the fire warden fully understand the appropriate action in the event of a fire

Emergency Assembly Area

  • Has an emergency assembly area been appointed

  • Is the emergency assembly area accessible

  • Do the staff members know where the emergency assembly area is located

  • Is the designated emergency assembly area adequate to hold all the staff members

  • Is there an evacuation site plan located in all common areas

First Aid

First Aid Officer

  • Is there a first aid officer on site

  • Is there any other staff that are able to assist if the first aid officer is unavailable or in need of assistance

  • Is there signage put up on site to indicate who the first aid officer is

  • Do the staff know who the first aid officer is

  • Is the first aid training being completed and continually updated

First Aid Kit

  • Is the first aid kit adequately stocked

  • Is there a record being kept of the supplies being used

  • Is there a record being kept of the staff using the first aid supplies

Manual Handling

  • Does the company have weight lifting limits

  • Have the staff received manual handling training

  • Is there signage to indicate the proper lifting procedures

  • Are the staff aware of how to report a manual handling incident
