Compressed Gas Cylinders

  • Compressed gas cylinders properly secured at all times

  • Compressed gas cylinders have regulators removed and capped when not in use & during transport

  • Stored in vertical position

  • Compressed gas cylinders stored away from hot work to prevent sparks/slag/flame from contact

  • Compressed gas cylinders properly/legibly marked as to contents

  • Cylinders without hand wheels have key, handle or nonadjustable wrenches on valve stems while in service

Tools & Equipment

  • Torches have approved flash-back arrestors to prevent flame from passing into fuel-gas system

  • Torches inspected for leaking shutoff valves, hose couplings & tip connectors prior to use

  • Clogged torch-tip openings cleaned with suitable cleaning wires, drills, or other devices designed for this purpose

PPE

  • Welding gloves serviceable and in use while welding is being performed

  • Other workers in vicinity of welding have adequate eye protection from sparks

  • Welding hoods have ANSI Z87.1 marking in place & readable

Fire Protection

  • Are all flammable/combustible materials kept a minimum of 35' from hot work

  • Are adequate fire boxes with 4 walls and a floor in place when flammables/combustibles cannot be relocated

  • Suitable fire extinguishing equipment available when hot work is performed

  • Fire extinguisher up to date on annual and monthly inspection prior to use, visual inspection verifies adequate pressure

  • Hot work permit obtained, reviewed, understood and signed by crew prior to work beginning

  • Trained fire watch assigned and in place prior to hot work starting and for at least 30 minutes after hot work completed
