Construction Work in, Over Or Adjacent To Water/Liquids Where there is a Drowning

  • A SWMS/JSA has been developed to ensure hazards have been identified, assessed and controlled, taking into account the nature of the work, foreseeable contingencies and the training of workers exposed to hazards.

  • Project risk assessment or similar identifies areas where there is a risk of drowning, assessment of risk and controls to implement on site during the project.

  • SWMS/JSAs have been developed for work in, over or adjacent to water/liquids and address foreseeable contingencies and worker training.

  • Training and competency register.

  • Monitoring processes have been established and implemented on the project.

  • Work methods have been developed in accordance with legislative requirements and applicable standards.

  • Submitted SWMS/JSAs format and content contained within is in accordance with jurisdictional legislation and applicable standards.

  • Emergency and rescue procedures that have been developed specifically address and control the risks involved with the works.

  • An emergency plan or response protocol has been established that considers water rescue emergency scenarios where relevant.

  • Drill records of water rescue related emergency response scenarios.

  • Means of rescue is readily available and sufficient to respond in a timely manner.

  • There is evidence of continual monitoring of associated hazards eg; <br>Electrical.<br>Fall from height<br>Water condition and weather.

  • Documented process/procedure (or similar document) that identifies a process to ensure ongoing monitoring of associated water hazards during the project scope.

  • Inspection checklists.

  • Task observation records.

  • Appropriate PPE/protection is in place to reduce the level of risk and exposure to an acceptable level, in accordance with the SWMS/JSAs and relevant legislation.

  • SWMS/JSAs identify specific PPE requirements for tasks including (but not limited to) <br>Floatation<br>Lifelines and fall restraint.

  • Personnel floatation devices are utilised where swimming proficiency is inadequate.

  • Other hazard related activity.
