Folder 1 - Compliance

  • Section 1 - Is the Construction Phase Plan available and up to date

  • Section 5 - Is the Asbestos Report available and been reviewed by the site manager

Folder 4 - Risk Assessment - Method Statements

  • Are all RAMS for the works currently being undertaken on site available and signed by operatives

  • Add an action where RAMS are not yet available for contractors who have yet to start on site

Folder 5 - Site Induction Records

  • Inductions - Have suitable inductions been provided by the Site Manager to all operatives and recorded?

  • Induction - Do all operatives have relevant training - is this recorded correctly for all operatives / visitors

  • Has the site manager been inducted - are training records available for the site and contracts manager?

Health and Safety Noticeboard

  • Is the site safety noticeboard complete containing - F10, H&S law poster, first aiders, fire plan, traffic plan, asbestos info, insurance information, H&S and Environmental policies

Welfare Unit - Signage

  • Is the signage in the site welfare cabins correct, up to date, in good condition and represents the clients requirements? (CoVID, Cleaning, Mental Health, Modern Slavery)

Site Entrance / Boundary - Signage

  • Is the signage that is displayed on the heras fencing / site boundary up to date and in good condition with the correct contact details for the company and site manager?

Critical 5 - Safety Questions

Fire Exits and Entrances

  • Are the fire exits clear and unobstructed, are they free from combustible debris, is there a fire extinguisher situated at every fire point?

Site Security

  • Is the site secure from un-authorised persons? Is heras fencing in place (secured by two clamps)? Is there any evidence of un-authorised persons attempting entry?

Working at Height

  • Are alternatives to step ladders on site and being used? Is step ladder use minimised and only used where necessary (e.g. short duration work, restricted spaces). Where ladders are used, are they tagged?

Electrical Safety

  • Are Electrical Safety systems in place - Isolation - Are services isolated - are works being performed by a competent person

Hot Works

  • Are Hot Work controls in place - Permit to work, fire extinguishers (2 required) no combustible materials present

Hot Topic

  • Is dust being controlled, are dust cubes needed / ordered, are face masks being worn, do users have face fit testing, is there a build up of dust on flat surfaces

Site Activities

Fire Safety

  • Are there enough fire points? Is the signage correct on the fire points? Is there a marked Fire Assembly Point? Has signage been placed to indicate the direction of travel in a Fire Emergency?

  • Has a fire drill been completed (within the first week of site going live) (repeated after 4 weeks)

PPE - Personal Protective Equipment

  • PPE - Are operatives wearing the appropriate PPE for tasks and Client requirements? 3 / 4 / 5 point PPE (client specific)

Dust

  • Dust - Are “M” class extraction units on site, and being used? Is dust minimised & supressed with no dry sweeping on site? Are face masks (face fitted) being worn where applicable?

Lighting

  • Is the site well lit with no dark areas, is suitable temporary lighting available?

Services

  • Services - Buried - Has a Permit to Break Ground been completed? Has the area been scanned? Is the CAT user trained and competent? Is the equipment calibrated?

Housekeeping and Welfare

  • Site Housekeeping - First impressions good? Is the site clean & tidy? Materials, debris and waste being managed to prevent hazards? Are skips secure?

  • Welfare Facilities - Are appropriate facilities in place such as hot & cold water, means of heating water/food, clean suitable seating & tables, toilets available? Are the welfare facilities clean and tidy?

Working at Height

  • Is edge protection in place, secure and to the relevant standards

  • Is work at height equipment / protection suitably tagged (Scaffold tag - 1 week duration) (BIL WAH register tag - 1 week duration)
