Personal protective equipment

  • Is everyone in the lab wearing their lab coat, lab glasses and safety shoes? (Please note how many people are not wearing the appropriate PPE and instruct them that they should not be in the lab without the correct lab jacket, shoes and glasses)

  • Are gloves stocked and readily available for use?

Reagents, Wastes and basic housekeeping

  • Are all chemicals (both in storage and in use on instruments and benches) labelled correctly, in date and show the correct ICH hazard symbol?

  • Are benches free from unattended and unlabeled materials/reagents? Are all benches clean and orderly? Please notify the Tech team if the work cell is in need of 5S.

  • Are all bins (Flammable, GMM and residual/ general) in good condition and free from overflowing material?

  • Are sharp bins emptied and free from overflowing material?

  • Is the lab area free from clutter and trip hazards?

  • Are all Hazardous wastes correctly segregated and stored in appropriately designated areas? Please check flammable, GMM and hazardous waste streams.

  • Has the eyewash station been flushed and signed off this week?

  • Is the Diphoterine Reagent available, in date and the seal intact? (If the seal is broken contact the first aid team so this can be restocked)

  • Is the first aid kit available and in good condition?

  • Does an Enviromanager need to be raised from the findings of this audit?
