  • Bring empty tote or laundry basket to cottage.

  • Collect all laundry: separate towels, sheets, & duvet set, place in bin.

  • Collect bath mat and all throw cushion covers, place in tote & put outside cottage.

  • Collect kitchen & bathroom garbage, compost & recycling. Put outside cottage.

  • Wash hands and bring items to pump house. Bring garbage to waste area by garage upon departure.

Kitchen/ Dining Room

  • Put on clean gloves.

  • Get new garbage bag from kitchen for your use.

  • Turn on lights, ensure they work. Dust and clean out bugs as necessary.

  • Go through all cupboards, drawers, & inspect all kitchen-ware for use/ cleanliness/ water spots. Clean as needed.

  • Polish cutlery & glassware with microfiber cloth.

  • If there are dishes in sink, wash with hot soapy water. Rinse with hot water, place on drying rack.

  • Using clean microfiber cloth, dry dishes until spot free & put away in cupboard

  • Clean & dry dish rack and place back under sink.

  • Empty under sink, spray cleaner throughout, wipe clean with paper towel/microfiber cloth

  • Clean garbage, recycling, & compost bins. Place bags in proper bins.

  • Place items back under sink.

  • Turn on oven light. Open oven, inspect for use & cleanliness.

  • As needed, spray cleaner inside sides, base, & door of oven. Let sit.

  • Open fridge, use disposable wipes to clean. Dry with paper towel or clean rag.

  • Open freezer, do visual inspection, clean as needed, checking in door for crumbs etc.

  • Spray cleaner on sides, front of fridge. Clean, then dry with microfiber cloth until streak free. Clean top of fridge until free of dust.

  • Open microwave, remove plate. Clean inside, top and all sides. Clean plate & replace.

  • Remove items from top of microwave. Clean outside & face of microwave, shine with microfiber cloth until streak free.

  • Inspect coffee maker for cleanliness, open & inspect. Clean, dry, shine with microfiber cloth & put in cupboard.

  • Inspect kettle for cleanliness. Clean, dry, shine & put away.

  • Clean crumbs from toaster & off counter. Use disposable wipe to fully clean toaster, dry with rag/ paper towel.

  • Turn on oven hood light, inspect for cleanliness, clean as needed.

  • Inspect top & inside of hood vent, use disposable wipes to clean, clean rag/paper towel to dry

  • Inspect elements for crumbs, as needed remove & replace.

  • Use paper towel to clean inside of oven. Ensure all cleaner is cleaned up.

  • Spray cleaner on front of stove, wipe clean.

  • Spray cleaner on stove top, clean with paper towel.

  • Spray face of stove. Remove dials to clean. Use clean rag to shine streak free. Replace dials.

  • Remove small items from counter top, spray with cleaner & wipe clean.

  • Wipe items clean with disposable wipes before replacing.

  • Using disposable wipe, wipe clean salt, pepper, oil & vinegar, shine with microfiber cloth.

  • Clean sink, wipe clean with paper towel until streak free.

  • Clean & shine faucet with microfiber cloth, turning all around to inspect.

  • Spray cleaner around drain & onto drain stops. Thoroughly clean both with paper towel.

  • Place drain stops upside-down onto top sides of sink.

  • Clean cabinet & drawer faces, focusing on high touch areas. Sanitize all handles, knobs, & pulls.

  • Remove items from dining table. Spray table & clean. Clean items & return to table.

  • Dust, then clean chairs with disposable wipes. Ensure no crumbs are on seat fabrics.

  • Use window cleaner on dirty windows, frames.

  • Clean baseboard heaters.

  • Clean all light switches.

Living Room

  • Turn on all lights, ensure they work & are clean

  • Using TV remote, turn on TV.

  • Ensure TV is working, & previous guests signed out of Netflix

  • Dust face & top of TV, ensure streak free.

  • Remove items from coffee/side tables. Spray table with cleaner & dry with rag.

  • Clean items before replacing to table.

  • Art work & decorations - dust with damp cloth

  • Sofa pillows - ensure covers clean, change frequently.

  • Sofa & chair - clean, vacuum or lint roll as needed

  • Inspect both sides of closet doors & trim, clean as needed.

  • Use disposable wipe to clean all door handles.

  • Inspect windows, use window cleaner as needed.

  • Inspect window ledges & baseboard heaters for dust, hair. Clean as needed

Guest Room

  • Turn on all lights to test function. Clean light fixtures of bugs.

  • Inspect drawers, closets & under furniture for lost articles. Set aside.

  • Inspect curtains for cleanliness & function.

  • Take picture or remove curtains for cleaning/ repair

  • Clean night stand surfaces, dust & clean bed side lamps

  • Inspect decorations for cleanliness. Dust & clean as needed.

  • Clean headboard & footboard with disposable wipe.

  • Inspect both sides of closet doors, clean as needed.

  • Close bedroom door, clean back of door as needed.

  • Use disposable wipe to clean door handles upon exit.

  • Clean all light switches.

Bathroom

  • Turn on lights - Are they working & clean of dust/cobwebs?

  • If roll is half or more full, using sink faucet as wet stamp, fold & stamp roll before replacing. If less than half roll, replace with new roll.

  • Use toilet bowl cleaner in toilet, let sit.

  • Remove everything off vanity counter.

  • Use window cleaner on mirror, clean with paper towel until streak free.

  • Spray vanity, sink, & faucet with cleaner. Wipe clean with paper towel.

  • Clean soap dispenser.

  • Clean side of vanity.

  • Shine faucet with clean microfiber cloth until streak free.

  • Scrub inside toilet with brush until clean & flush

  • Use disposable wipe to clean toilet brush handle & holder.

  • Spray toilet top, sides, base, seat & cover with cleaner, or use disposable wipes. Use paper towel to clean, work from top - bottom.

  • Using disposable wipes, wipe all areas of shower wall until clean, then dry with microfiber cloth until streak free.

  • Spray base of shower, ensure shower is streak free & clean of hair/ dirt in drain.

  • Shine faucet & shower head with microfiber cloth.

  • Clean & sanitize waste basket.

  • Clean baseboard heater of dust, hair, etc.

  • Inspect bathroom walls, clean any scuffs, dirt

  • Close bathroom door, ensure lock works

  • Inspect bathroom door & trim, clean, dust & remove scuffs

  • Clean light switches

Floors

  • Bring laundry tote to Pump House. Get vacuum.

  • Vacuum cottage, starting from furthest room.

  • Be sure to get under furniture (if possible) & into corners.

  • Lift & vacuum under small mats & rugs

  • Complete Cottage Restock Checklist

  • Before restocking, Swifter Wet to clean floors. Use multiple wipes as needed for effective clean.

  • Retrieve restock items from Pump House.

  • Be sure to get cleaning items needed for exterior of cottage.

Making the Bed

  • Begin by assessing mattress cover for defects, cleanliness. Remove and replace as needed.

  • Tightly tuck mattress cover under mattress edge. Stretch to remove wrinkles.

  • Put fitted sheet onto mattress. Start at top corner, end on opposite bottom corner. Stretch to remove wrinkles. If very wrinkled, use misting spray bottle to lightly spray water onto sheet, stretch and use hands to remove wrinkles.

  • Put sheet onto bed, pulling edge of sheet to top of mattress. Ensure sheet is evenly draped across bed.

  • From middle of top sheet edge, fold sheet over itself towards foot of bed approx. 1 foot (12 inches)

  • Go to other side of bed and continuing pulling sheet down until even

  • Tightly tuck in one side then other. If very wrinkled, use method from above to reduce wrinkles.

  • Using hospital corner technique finish tucking sheet under mattress edge at bottom.

Finishing Up

  • Go through cottage, turn off lights, lock back door.

  • Ensure door lock(s) work, & lock door when exiting.

  • Use disinfectant wipe to clean door handle.

  • Inspect entrance to cottage. Correct/note any defects, clean as needed.

  • Inspect chairs/ tables for safety, cleanliness. Clean as needed.

  • If unsafe, take picture of defect. If possible remove unsafe item and replace. Report to manager.

  • Inspect porch, railings, & steps for safety & cleanliness. Clean, sweep as needed.

  • If unsafe, take picture of defect. Block off area if possible. Report to manager.

  • Clean outer windows as needed.

  • Inspect maintenance of garden.

  • Tidy as much as possible. Tell Doug if grass needs to be cut, weeds trimmed, etc.

  • Bag & remove all garbage & recycling to garbage area by garage for disposal.
