WHENEVER IT IS NECESSARY FOR CHAINSAW OPERATIONS TO SUPPORT HARVESTER ACTIVITY (FELLING TREES TO TRACK/MACHINE) AND PERIODICALLY ENTER THE HARVESTER RISK ZONE TWO WAY RADIO CONTACT MUST BE MAINTAINED BY THE CHAINSAW OPERATOR (CO) AND HARVESTER OPERATOR (HO).
THE SIGNAL “OUTSIDE ZONE” MUST BE GIVEN BY THE CO WHEN THEY ARE CLEAR OF THE HARVESTER RISK ZONE, INDICATING THAT THE HARVESTER MAY CONTINUE OPERATIONS.
THE CALL MUST BE RETURNED BY THE HO “OUTSIDE ZONE”.
ONLY THEN MAY THE HO COMMENCE
WHEN THE HO HAS CEASED AND IS READY FOR THE CO TO SAFELY ADVANCE BACK INTO THE RISK ZONE THEY MUST FIRST SHUTDOWN THE HARVESTER THEN GIVE THE CALL “ENTER ZONE”, THE CO RETURNS WITH “ENTERING ZONE”.
THE RISK ZONE IS IDENTIFIED AS WHICHEVER THE GREATER, TWICE THE TREE LENGTH PLUS THE LENGTH OF BOOM OR AS DISPLAYED ON THE MACHINES BOOM.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL THE CO STAND WITHIN THE 200 METER OPERATING ARC OF THE HARVESTING HEAD (CHAINSHOT).
IF THE OPERATIONS CAN BE PLANNED TO AVOID A CHAINSAW OPERATOR HAVING TO WORK IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO A HARVESTER THIS SHALL BE THE PREFERRED METHOD.
ALL OPERATORS MUST CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THIS SYSTEM AND BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE ITS USE PRIOR TO THESE OPERATIONS COMMENCING -

WHENEVER IT IS NECESSARY FOR WINCH OPERATIONS TO SUPPORT CHAINSAW ACTIVITY (FELLING & WINCHING EDGE/SPAR TREES) AND PERIODICALLY ENTER THE CHAINSAW OPERATORS RISK ZONE VISUAL CONTACT MUST BE MAINTAINED BY THE CHAINSAW OPERATOR (CO) AND WINCH OPERATOR (WO) MUST COMPLY WITH THE BELOW:
1. CHAINSAW OPERATIONS IS AN INDIVIDUAL OPERATION AND ADHERED TO AT ALL TIMES
2. WHEN SETTING UP THE WINCH THE WO MAY ASSIST THE CO
3. ONCE SETUP IS COMPLETE THE WO MUST LEAVE THE RISK ZONE AND CONFIRM TO WO HE/SHE IS SAFE WITH HAND SIGNAL OR RADIO
4. ONCE CO CONFIRMS WO IS SAFE THE TREE MAY BE FELLED
5. WHEN THE TREE IS SAFELY ON THE GROUND THE CO WILL SIGNAL VIA HAND OR RADIO TO WO HE CAN COME INTO ASSIST
THE RISK ZONE IS IDENTIFIED AS THE TWO TREE LENGTH DISTANCE
ALL OPERATORS MUST CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THIS SYSTEM AND BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE ITS USE PRIOR TO THESE OPERATIONS COMMENCING -
