  • The time allocated for the construction of the firing circuit is 45 minutes on Dems West Range. The assessment will begin once the Directing Staff completes their initial task brief. The OIC practice will dictate all timings from this point until completion of task.

  • Each trainee is required to construct a Detcord firing system with 20m of detonating cord, black electrical tape and clip demolition provided. The firing systems must include the following: Single point of Initiation, Lap joint, Y junction, Cordex Connector (Red Devil), Junction clip, Reef knot, Girth hitch, Junction box with four detonating leads and one TR1 primer and Clove hitch. This system will be initiated by an electrical detonator using the correct electrical procedures for the disposal of the circuit and must be designed in such a way that it functions a charge of plastic explosives.

Preparation Phase

  • Did the Trainee ensure there was 100mm intimate contact / tape joints?

  • Did the Trainee ensure there was a 300mm overhang?

Detonator

  • Did the trainee safely handle the detonator at all times (earthing drills done)?

  • Did the trainee wear the correct PPE when handling the detonator at all times?

  • Did the trainee correctly and safely inspect the detonator?

  • Did the trainee use the correct procedure for testing Det<br>(Det under sandbag)<br>?

  • Did the trainee correctly conduct Continuity check?

  • Did the trainee ensure bared ends of Det are shunted together?

  • Did the trainee correctly and safely handles detonator?

Immediately Before Arming Charge

  • Did the trainee brief and retire the work party ensuring the following was carried out?

Arming the Charge

  • Did the trainee Connect the Det to firing cable correctly (Earthing drills, insulation of bare wires)?

Firing the Charge

  • Did the trainee Account for all personnel on return to Safe Area?<br>(*Second Safety Check)

  • Did the trainee visually conduct the safety checks? <br>Yell “undercover” <br>(*Third Safety Check)

  • Did the trainee Connect the shrike and request permission to test continuity?

  • Did the trainee request permission to fire?

  • Did the trainee shout “firing” when firing the charge? (Once Fired - Disconnect shrike and shunt wires)

  • Did the trainee conduct the correct Misfire Procedure? (if applicable)

Post Blast and Site Clearance

  • Did the trainee observe the “30” seconds last frag" wait time?

  • Did the trainee ensure all personnel are briefed to stay undercover prior to leaving safe area?

  • Did the trainee observe all safety precautions on approaching disposal site?

  • Did the trainee correctly inspect the disposal site?

  • Did the trainee give the all clear correctly?

  • Did the trainee Check firing cable for damage ?

  • Did the trainee remove Det wires and shunts bared ends of firing cable?

Misfire Procedure

  • Did the trainee correctly conduct the misfire drill ? (QA)

Control of Work Party

  • Did the trainee effectively control the work party throughout the task?

  • Did the trainee maintain control of shrike throughout task?
