Aircraft:

  • Aircraft Ident

  • Aircraft Type

Pre-Move Meeting:

A pre-move safety meeting occurs to review briefing items specific to drill moves

  • Rigging

  • Communication

  • Hand signals

  • Assembly order

  • Maximum load weight for day

  • Approach/Departure paths

  • Wind direction and strength

  • Security of load before sending

  • Proper PPE is being worn by all crews

  • Windsock is present at receiving site

  • All personnel at pre-job meeting sign off on meeting form

  • FOD check conducted at sending and receiving site

  • It is decided who should have the survival shack? Sending or receiving crew and when. Consideration should be given to weather and access

  • The pilot has received a briefing, visually witnessing the method of the specific drill’s assembly on the ground prior to flight

Confirm with drilling contractor:

  • All fly cables are in place, in good condition and load rated

  • Shackles are in place, tightened, lock wired and in good condition

  • Where surface or lighting conditions warrant, reference is created i.e. snow shadows/ staining, spreading loads around the drill site

Helicopter Operator:

  • Aircraft shoulder harness is worn

  • Pilot is wearing flight helmet

  • External Load Daily Equipment Inspection form completed prior to move

  • Pilot is not flying loads over drillers heads

  • Consistent approach paths are followed

  • Loads are delivered smoothly and not rushed

  • Pilots were an active part of pre-job meeting and voiced any concerns with upcoming move

Drill Move:

  • Overall organization of move

  • Drill Shack tag lines in good condition/sufficient length vs drill design and surface handling conditions such that no person is directly underneath load

  • Minimum personnel required to align the drill shack is sufficient for its design, site surface conditions, and wind

  • Non-essential personnel are not within the assembly area, approach departure paths, or escape routes

  • Drillers stop assembly when load is on final and wait until helicopter has delivered load and departed before resuming work

  • Drill crew witnesses each load on departure for security/abnormalities

  • Any FOD emerging during assembly is controlled by drill crew

  • Water hoses are paralleled and tied together/lifted from the middle, not flown from the ends

  • Are any drill components or ancillary equipment placed on the rod rack during move?

Post Flight

  • A post construction debrief occurs to review what went well, what needs improvement and pertinent feedback

  • Overall pilot proficiency was suitable and pilot had no issues with the move
