  • Was the slope physically checked before attempting to drive the vehicle down the slope?

  • Has the participant chooses the safest route to navigate down the slope?

  • Did the participant use the correct range, gear, speed, driving and braking techniques to navigate a steep slope?

  • Demonstrate ability to traverse various rugged terrain including:

  • Operate a 4x4 vehicle in rugged terrain.

  • Did the Candidate choose and inspect intended route prior to negotiation of the rugged terrain?

  • Ask the Candidate to outline a contingency plan to deal with unexpected hazards that could occur whilst driving through rugged terrain.

  • Was the Candidate able to put a contingency plan in place for hazards?

  • Water crossings

  • Navigate a 4x4 vehicle through a water crossing.

  • Was the water crossing physically checked (if safe to do so) prior to attempting the crossing?

  • Did the candidate hook up the snatch strap to the correct towing hooks on the vehicle with a D shackle (D shackle must be correctly rated)?

  • Was the Candidate able to operate the electric winch safety after demonstration from Lecturer?
