Electrical Safety - Portable Appliance Testing

  • Have all items of electrical equipment and appliances Undergone Portable Appliance Testing? Is this in date and labels attached?

Hazardous Materials

  • Asbestos - Are there any signs of damage to asbestos containing materials? Report immediately and safe guard the area.

  • Are all hazardous materials stored correctly and locked in COSHH cabinets as required?

  • Is COSHH information available? - data sheets, risk assessments etc.

  • Are the correct hazard warning signs displayed and legible?

  • Where specific PPE is required is this available?

Work Equipment and machinery

  • Are all protective guards and covers in place and secured?

  • Are all electrical isolators / mechanical isolating valves in good condition and locked where appropriate?

  • Are there any obvious faults that are required to be attended to ( these should be reported via 5555)?

Access Systems - Ladders, Scaffold Platforms, MEWPs etc.

  • Are ladders in good condition and have the inspection tags attached and in date?

  • Are scaffold platforms complete, all safety rails in place and inspection tags attached and in date?

  • Where edge protection is fitted is this secure and in good condition.

  • Where 'man safe' systems are fitted are these in good condition, secure and signage appropriately posted?

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Are all staff in the are wearing the correct PPE?

  • Is it in good condition?

  • Where PPE storage is supplied is it being utilised and in order?

Security

  • Are all access doors secured where necessary?

  • Are CEM card swipe readers working?

  • Are restricted zone signs present, clean and legible where appropriate?

  • Are there any Unauthorised Persons in the area?

Housekeeeping

  • Is the area clean and free from debris, rubbish or unwanted items!

  • Are all materials, tools and equipment and spare parts stored correctly and organised?

  • Are skips covered and rubbish bins not overflowing?

Welfare and First Aid Provisions

  • Are first aid boxes present and contents in date?

  • Are eye wash bottles in date and unopened?

  • Is all relevant first aid signage present and legible?

  • Are defibrillators undamaged and complete with instructions?

  • Are toilets and kitchen areas clean and serviceable?

Energy usage

  • Where lighting is not required is this switched off?

  • Are all items of IT equipment switched off when not required?

  • Where heating is not required is this switched off?
