TRILITY Condition Assessment - Electrical and Mechanical

1 Very Good

  • Sound modern electrical and mechanical components in “as new” condition all operable and well maintained. No major investment required.

2 Good

  • As 1, but showing superficial wear and tear. Efficiency undiminished. Minor oil leaks and gland wear evident. Protective coatings still intact. Unlikely to require major overhauls or replacement within 10 years. Routine maintenance required, needs to be inspected within 5 years.

3 Moderate

  • All components functioning acceptably but showing significant wear and tear with minor failures and efficiency has diminished. Early signs of significant (rather than superficial) wear and tear, corrosion becoming apparent. No major work likely to be required within 5 years. Needs to be inspected within 5 years.

4 Poor

  • Function and/or running costs significantly affected by failures or maintenance needs, still functioning as 3 but effective life exceeded, requires major overhaul within 5 years.

5 Fail

  • Electrically unsafe, Health and Safety risk, not working or out of commission because unsafe to use, too unreliable or costly to run. Requires major overhaul or replacement within 2 years.

SA Water General Electrical Asset Condition Rating

  • The condition rating along with the associated estimated % of asset life remaining.

1 Very good 80% to 100%

  • Asset is in “as new” condition.
    Sound, fully functional modern electrical equipment.

2 Good 50% to 80%

  • Initial signs of deterioration.
    Sound, fully functional equipment. Minor deterioration of electrical equipment with signs of physical deterioration (e.g. minor discolouration). Deterioration has minimal impact on asset performance. Minimal short-term failure risk.
    Most overhauled assets expected to return to condition grade 2.

3 Fair / Moderate 25% to 50%

  • Satisfactory condition.
    Functional electrical equipment, with minor physical defects and some diminished efficiency. Appearance affected by deterioration. Minor components or isolated sections of the asset need replacement or repair, but asset still functions safely at adequate level of service.
    Consider operational intervention to restore condition grade and deter further deterioration.

4 Poor 10% to 25%

  • Asset is still functional but experiencing problems due to deterioration of the asset.
    Asset exhibiting significant signs of one or more of the following: physical damage, loss of insulation/potential for exposed live parts, signs of heat damage, deterioration, discolouration, physical wear and tear, corrosion and/or noise/vibration.
    Replacement or refurbishment required in short term; asset barely serviceable. Intervention to restore condition grade may still be economically viable.

5 Very Poor 0% to 10%

  • Asset has failed or failure is imminent. Asset condition is having a detrimental effect on performance.
    Asset exhibiting extreme signs of one or more of the following: physical damage, failure of insulation/exposed live parts, signs of excessive heat damage, deterioration, discolouration, wear and tear, corrosion and/or noise/vibration.
    Urgent action necessary. Asset is unserviceable, replacement required.
