Live Work Prerequisites

Live Works Questions:

  • What is the reason that LIVE work is being undertaken?

  • Is there any other way to do this work de-energised?

  • Live work is not to be commenced. Continue works in an isolated, safer, alternate way.

  • Is this work only to undertake visual inspections, testing, or working in the vicinity (3m) of exposed LIVE parts?

  • Are there any identified electrical equipment or circuits that can be isolated to minimise the risk?

  • Isolate these identified circuits before commencing work.

  • Have you installed insulated or non-conductive barriers to remove touch hazards?

  • Install barriers to minimise risk.

  • Why can you not install insulated barriers?

  • Do you have a competent safety spotter?

  • Do not proceed until a competent safety spotter is available.

  • Are you competent in undertaking this work safely and proficiently?

  • Do not undertake any LIVE work!!!

  • Do you understand and have access to the company LIVE Works SWMS?

  • Do not undertake any LIVE work!!! Read and understand the attached SWMS document.

  • Do you have the correct, in date BOMB SUIT, other PPE and rescue kit to perform this work?

  • Do not undertake any LIVE work until the right PPE is available.

  • Is all testing equipment in good, proven, working order?

  • Do not undertake any ELECTRICAL work until equipment is proven to be reliable.

  • Has a written risk assessment been completed identifying all risks and control measures?

  • Undertake written risk assessment before commencing work.

  • Safety barriers and exclusions zones in place where needed?

  • Install barricades and barriers before commencing work.

  • Area has suitable lighting to conduct work safely?

  • Install temporary lighting before commencing work.

  • Is isolation point identified and marked?

  • Mark and identify Isolation point before commencing.

  • Is first aid onsite and available?

  • Work is not commence until first aid is made available.

  • Safety brief completed with all involved?

  • Complete safety brief before starting any live works.

  • Are all unauthorised people cleared from the area?

  • Remove all unauthorised people from the area before commencing work.

  • Has the Electrical Manager been contacted and given written approval via email?

  • You are not authorised to continue on with this LIVE work. Contact your Electrical Manager.

  • All workers on this permit may proceed with this task.
