Asbestos Identification

  • Asbestos can be contained in various materials where components may be installed. these are most commonly found in but are not limited to building eaves or wall panelings. Some sites will have an asbestos register to refer to. If no register is available inspect areas of work and if questionable at all DO NOT PROCEED until it is 100% identified that there is no presence of Asbestos.
    In no circumstances can you drill into or through the material or disturb in any way.

  • Does site have an up to date asbestos register to refer to?

  • have any hardware locations been identified that could potentially contain Asbestos that are either included or not included in the register?

  • Do Not proceed any further until this result is removed, consider and consult with client to completely remove this risk.

  • If it is 100% identified that there is no Asbestos present in the areas of work you are safe to proceed.

Working at Heights

  • Working at heights introduces identified risk of falls complete the below section to remove and control risk associated.

  • Will works be carried out at any height that requires the use of ladders or Elevated Work Platforms?

  • List safe work methods to apply to task to remove any risk associated with working from ladders, check off as required and applied to task.

  • Inspect ladders and ensure ladder selection is fit for purpose to complete task at hand

  • When positioning ladder ensure it is on a flat surface and stable.

  • limit the need to obstruct walkways and fire exits, where needed cordon off area and display signage advise working in area.

  • when climbing ladder ensure hands are free to grip onto ladder while both ascending and descending.

  • do not leave items or tools on top of ladder when not present.

  • If working above head or if both hands are required to be used to complete task, second person is available to spot and foot/ladder

  • List any other control measures applied.

  • any works to be completed at a height greater than 2 meters must be carried out with the use of Scissor lifts, cherry pickers or other types of Plant to control the risk of falls.

Working in Ceiling spaces, Cavities and other enclosed areas.

  • when required to install cabling inside enclosed areas it is possible that entrapment, heat fatigue or electrical shock can occur. complete the below section to remove and control risk associated.

  • does installation require access to any enclosed areas for the purpose of cable or component installation.

  • inspect entry point to ensure access in and out of area is suitable

  • When entering area from ladder ensure to follow the SWMS for ladder use

  • before entering area visually check to ensure there are no visible hazards in the area of works.

  • think out and plot the best route to take through the area, to ensure that the chosen path is as free as possible from tricky obstacles to maneuver around but still provides the most direct and safe route to take

  • Limit the need to cross any electrical, plumbing heat exchange or other services in the area.

  • Provide adequate lighting to area if required so visibility is at its best

  • when navigating the route ensure that stable footing is achieved at all times, think and watch before stepping to ensure that footing is on adequate support to prevent fall through ceiling.

  • do not over extend to reach items or over extend to place footing. ensure that own wight is always centered when standing or crawling and that at least one hand is used to hold on at all times.

  • Have second person available to stand and spot from outside of point of entry, with own light source.

  • due to the difference in temperature when inside particularly a roof space, time spent in area will be limited to reduce the chance of fatigue or dehydration. have water on hand for hydration and limit time in area to no more than 30 minutes without taking a break from the area.

Use of Hand Tools and Power Tools

  • when operating both hand and power tools there is a risk of causing personnel injury.complete the below section to remove and control risk associated. ensure that all required PPE gear is worn at all times while using tools.

  • Use battery/corded operated drills for the purpose they are intended, ensure tool is in good condition. when drilling holes ensure drill bits, hole saws and spade bits are in good sharp condition to remove the need to over exert and potentially slip while using causing injury to self or others. for corded tools ensure that they are tested and tagged and that both types are fit for purpose.

  • Use battery/corded operated grinders for the purpose they are intended, ensure tool is in good condition. when cutting or grinding ensure that task is completed with no flammable materials near by. have fire extinguisher on hand in case. pay attention to direction of sparks generated while in use to ensure they are not going in a direction that could cause harm to any property or bystander. for corded tools ensure that they are tested and tagged and that both types are fit for purpose.
