Short Description of Emergency Scenario

  • You are working on a Crystele Job site and notice a large container that has leaked several litres of liquid onto the ground.
Ask the Employee/Supervisor - “What are some things you could do to clean the spill?”

  • Did the workers say they would check the label to determine the type of liquid?

  • Did the workers say they would get a spill kit or some other method to clean the spill? Or use a type of spill kit ?

  • Did the workers say they would check the SDS sheet to determine what PPE to wear or how to clean up the spill?

  • Did the workers say they would call the Construction Manager to report the Spill? or Record the Incident?

  • Did the Workers discuss how they would dispose of the waste from the Spill? What if the liquid was hazardous (or Petrol)?

Discuss the Best practice for the scenario – which is

  • (1) Wear appropriate PPE – should know or consult SDS sheets

  • (2) Use a spill kit to prevent further runoff

  • (3) Clean the Spill

  • (4) Report the spill to the Site Supervisor and record an Incident

  • (5) Dispose of the Waste in the correct bins – review PPE and Site Rules

Drill Observation

  • Are there gaps in training, equipment, or documentation?

  • Is there a need for corrective actions (re-training)?

  • Did the Employees show they were competent to respond to the situation?

  • What could be done differently next time?
