Hazardous Waste Determination
-
Are there unlabeled, non-empty containers in the lab? A person who generates a solid waste, as defined in 335-14-2-.01(2), must make an accurate determination as to whether that waste is a hazardous waste in order to ensure wastes are properly managed according to applicable ADEM regulations. [335-14-3-.01-(2)]
-
Are empty containers marked or labeled "Empty"? EHS Recommends clearly marking empty containers as empty to avoid confusion. Also remove or mark out existing original labels and hazard signs. [EHS Best Management Practice]

Are all Satellite Accumulation Areas at or near the process generating the hazardous waste? [ADEM Admin Code R. 14-3-.01(5)(a)]
-
Is hazardous waste being stored in a secure location (i.e. not in the active work area, fume hoods or in or close to the aisle where lab personnel could inadvertently knock over containers)? [ADEM Admin Code R. 14-3-.01(5)(a)]
