General Site Conditions

  • Is the car park area & stormwater drains clear of debris such as litter or cardboard?

  • Is the spill kit available, clearly marked, and stocked with sufficient materials to respond to likely spills? (check the bin, it should be located by the wash bay).

  • Are waste bins in the car park secured, and do their lids remain closed to prevent contents from being blown out?

  • Are loose items, such as cardboard stacks, adequately secured or wrapped to prevent them from blowing around the site?

Vehicle Hazards

  • Are truck drivers reminded to apply handbrakes when parking, especially on sloped ground? (either via their SOP training records or by signage in the sloped driveway areas where shipping containers are lifted).

  • Are wheel chocks available for those trucks that do not have automatic handbrakes or handbrake alarms? (Note: this is to prevent them rolling into the bay and causing an environmental disaster).

  • Is the car park free from oil, petrol, or diesel leaks (e.g., fuel, oil, or coolant) that could contaminate stormwater systems? (You need to check around the car park and under vehicles)

Forklift Hazards

  • Is the forklift free from oil, LPG or diesel leaks? (Look around the forklift and the area it is parked and look for signs of leaks)

  • Is the forklift parked appropriately and across the slope in the sloped car park to prevent rollaway risks?

Storage of Hazardous Substances

  • Are all oxygen cylinders and LPG cylinders stored upright and secured by chains in their cages?

  • Are hazardous substances stored on pallets and secured to prevent tipping or movement during transport or handling? (Check with the operators how they transport drums from the car park to the upper level and how they restrain the drum to prevent it falling or rolling).

  • Are the drums of hazardous substances free of leaks or damage? (Requires an inspection of all drums in the car park area).

  • Are procedures in place to respond to leaks or spills that may occur near stormwater drains or if a car, forklift or truck rolled into the Waterview Bay mangroves area?

  • Are employees and contractors that transport the hazardous substances around outside and in the car park, trained in spill response and the use of spill kits?

  • Are emergency contact numbers and spill response procedures clearly displayed near the car park and storage areas?

Housekeeping

  • Is the car park free of unnecessary clutter, litter or debris that could increase risks?

  • Are all bins emptied regularly to prevent overflow and potential littering?

Worker Information

  • Have all workers completed the environmental impacts toolbox talk?

Sign-Off

  • Signature of person completing the Inspection
