Abrasive Blasting Verification

To ensure personnel completing abrasive basting activities have the correct PPE; the PPE is correctly set up and in good quality; emergency stoping capacity is set up correctly; abrasive blasting equipment is set up correctly

  • It is a requirement to have "Whip Checks" on all hose connections

  • Can the CMW's verify all hoses have Whip checks fitted?

  • Can the CMW's verify there are safety clips on all hose connections?

  • It is a requirement to have good quality air feed to the abrasive blasting helmet

  • Are the air traps in good quality and pressure differential indicators showing filters are not blocked. Has the air has flow checks (50l/s) and air quality tested.

  • The air feed helmet is the last line of defence and is required to have 1 inner and at least 1 outer visor fitted. The outer visor can become brittle with impact of material and needs to changes regularly and should have more than on with tear offs as a starting point

  • The "Dead Man" switch is used to stop the flow of high pressure air and particulates in and emergency. The switch is required to be attached to the CMW or require positive pressure to activate the air flow

  • Is the "Dead Man" switch correctly deployed and effective?
