Plans / Drawings

  • Verify approved plans / drawings are on-site or are available to the contractor.

Visual Inspection

Wiring

  • Wiring location, size, and type matches the specifications on approved plans.

  • Wiring is properly secured and clear of sharp objects.

  • Wiring is properly supported (not tied to ceiling grid support).

  • Verify Class A wiring with 4 foot separation in loops.

  • Wiring is provided for all devices shown on drawings.

Main Panel and Annunciator Panels

  • Dedicated electrical circuit is identified and posted at the main panel.

  • Breaker serving the main panel is labeled, marked in red, and locked in the open position.

  • Verify battery sizes match approved plans.

  • Verify batteries are labeled with month / year installed.

  • Verify that the fire alarm panel is grounded.

  • Verify that resistors are not being improperly used to bypass fault detection.

  • Map / legend posted at fire alarm panel and annunciators.

  • Verify annunciators panels are installed per approved plans.

Power Supplies

  • Dedicated electrical circuit is identified and posted at the power supply.

  • Breaker serving power supplies are labeled, marked in red, and locked in the open.

  • Verify battery sizes match approved plans.

  • Verify batteries are labeled with month / year installed.

  • Ensure power supply panel is grounded.

Initiating Devices

  • Initiating devices located as per approved drawings (smoke; heat; pull stations; water flow switches; modules).

  • Verify pull stations are double action.

  • Duct detector remote test switch and LED is installed.

Notification Appliances

  • Notification appliances located as per approved drawings (speakers; horns; strobes).

  • Strobes are set to correct candela as per approved plans.

Operational Test

  • Verify general operation of main panel and annunciator panels.

  • Communication lines disconnected and trouble signal is reported to main panel.

  • Disconnect batteries at main panel and trouble signal is reported to main panel.

  • Turn off electrical breaker supplying main panel and trouble signal is reported to main panel.

  • Disconnect batteries at power supply and trouble signal is reported to main panel.

  • Turn off electrical breaker supplying power supply and trouble signal is reported to main panel.

  • Remove device from each NAC and a trouble is reported at main panel.
