Control Panel

  • Verify 120 volt circuit is dedicated and labeled so that the owner can find it. Turn off and sound the audiovisuals. This is a good time to do a walk- thru to check each audiovisual and test the battery on full load for 5 minutes; 15 minutes for mass notification systems.

  • If system is monitored over phone lines, verify there are two. Unplug one phone line. Trouble should annunciation after 200 seconds. (Consideration will be taken for other transmission means.)

  • With 120 volt power restored, unplug 1 battery lead. A trouble shall annunciation at the protected premises.

  • Compare calculated size of batteries in submittal to actual batteries installed.

  • Tag system when the inspection is certified. Add manuals and AL fire alarm permit number in panel.

  • Provided Record of Completion and place one copy in the panel.

Field Devices

  • Blow canned smoke on at least one detector.

  • Pull at least one pull station. Verify any special tool is on hand to reset. (48")

  • Using a magnet or test switch, trip a duct smoke detector and watch fan shut down.

  • Remove smoke detector head from base to verify trouble annunciation.

  • Ask installer to remove a wire from one randomly selected audiovisual. Trouble should show within 200 seconds.

  • Create a ground fault on system and verify operation of audiovisuals (proper height), including sync strobes. When silenced, both horns and strobes should stop, system should be in trouble.

Communications

  • Remember, 90 seconds for transmission from location to central station, then 90 seconds for operator to contact dispatch.

  • Ensure central station has valid address that dispatch agrees with. Who is responding authority?

  • Ensure central station has accurate phone for contacting dispatch agency. ( Baldwin Central: 251-947-4911)

  • Discuss how much information should be sent to the dispatcher and trucks.

Sprinkler Devices

  • All sprinkler devices are tested with both sprinkler and fire alarm contractor present.

  • Turn off each valve, watch for trouble and restore, flowing water for wet alarm, partially bleeding air for low supervisory, and full alarm for dry system flow. (Exterior valves that have alarm devices shall be equipped with an AC lightning suppressor.)
