• Open the door and take a look at the hinges. If there are any screws missing or the hinge is damaged - this must be reported as Poor and an Action raised

• Door gaps at the top and side shouldn't be more than 4mm - use a £1 as a guide because it's 3mm thick. (the gap at the bottom of the door can be up to 8mm depending on the door type).

• Take a look at the intumescent strips on the door and frame. These will expand during a fire and reduce any smoke getting through the gaps.

• Open the door about halfway and then let it close to check the self closer. If this has been tampered with or the door is wedged open, this causes fire to spread a lot faster through a building.
