Breakfast Meal

  • Parents dropping children off after breakfast has ended in the classroom, stay with their child while they eat? (Delegate specific)

  • Every child is offered breakfast no matter what time the arrive

Required Paperwork/Documentation in classroom

  • There are a special diet and substitution list in the classroom

  • The classroom has both a parent menu and cooks menu with portion sizes.

  • CACFP is marked off at the point of service. (As each child is serving themselves or being offered the food)

At the Table

  • A full set of utensils is served at breakfast and lunch

  • If a third table is being used, it has the same utensils, plates, etc.

  • Spoons have serving sizes on them. ( If not teachers should ask kitchen what size the spoons is)

  • Kitchen staff set the food on the table, and place the right serving spoodle on each bowl or plate.

  • Children are seated at the table and ready when the food arrives.

  • There is a separate serving utensil for each item

  • Children were observed setting the table

  • Teachers are on schedule (children are ready at meal time)

  • Gloves are not worn unless the teacher is touching the child's food. (single use only)

  • Teachers are aware of how many items a child should have. (ex. 4 chicken nuggets)

  • Teachers and children sit together to eat while engaging in conversation

  • Teachers are encouraging children to take a full serving of every item offered for the meal. If the child refuses did the teacher offer the item again?

  • All the food is served in the correct amount to all each child to receive a portion. Seconds on milk, fruit, and vegetables should be available.

  • Allergy substitutions are provided when the meal is served: including milk and food

  • Milk is delivered to the classroom and placed on the table, in quantities allowing for each child to take the full serving.

  • Teachers are modeling the correct amount of milk in their glass AND encouraging children to take a full portion.

  • The teacher is seated at the table and modeling for children. Did you observe the teacher serving herself first?

  • Children are allowed to eat as soon as they serve themselves any number of items. They are not told they must wait to have all items or until their friends have all items.

  • Children are encouraged to drink their milk

  • Snack is served, family style

Kitchen Staff

  • Food was not delivered more than 5 minutes before lunchtime, or allowed to sit out for more than 10 minutes before eating.

  • The kitchen notified teachers of any menu substitutions

EHS

  • Infants observed being bottle fed, were not laid down or propped up during feeding. They are to be held, or if developmentally ready may be in a highchair at the table, if it is meal time.

  • Toddler food is cut up into appropriate developmentally sized portions

  • Transitioning infant/toddlers are allowed to eat table food when ready

  • Food is served in a bowl or plate, never directly on the table.

  • The And Justice for All Poster is visible to all participants

  • WIC information is posted on the parent board
