Checks/Actions

  • Have you Greased all sheaves and moving parts (including skyline blocks)

  • Check all shackles on tower top for wear and tension

  • Check that all shackles are safety shackles and make sure they have mollys or split pins

  • Check tower/ pole for cracks or defects

  • Check carriage/ grapple for cracks or defects

  • Check all moving parts for signs of wear, cracks or fatigue

  • Check all locking dogs are in place

  • Check guyline extensions for kinks or broken strands

  • Check that guy line/ guy rope extensions are are the correct diameter & type

  • Check that any static rope across a road is clearly flagged (and signposted if less than 6m from the ground when slack)

  • Check skyline extensions for kinks or broken strands

  • Check that deadmen installation is adequate and sound (log must be green and at least 5m by 50cm) Hole must be no less than 4m deep before log is inserted. Digger operator must compact the hole as he backfills (take measurements of log size and hole depth, then add photos of all deadmen before being covered up)
