Workplace Checklist Items

Mobile Plant and Forklifts

  • Have all forklifts had their pre-start inspection completed?

  • Are all forklift attachments certified and recently serviced i.e. 6-monthly?

  • Are only authorized and licensed operators using mobile plant & forklifts?

  • For all Forklift Battery Charging and Washbay locations, has the Emergency Eyewash Visual Checklist been completed?

  • Have all hydraulic Pallet Jacks/Trucks been inspected to ensure they are in safe working condition? Including: <br>1. Damaged wheels and rollers 2. Lift hold and lowering controls work correctly 3. Leaking hydraulic cylinder seals 4. Steering functions work correctly 5. Check bolts and fasteners 6. Check for 6-month service 7. Check for any impact damage

Gantry Crane Operations:

  • Have pre-start inspections been completed for all gantry cranes?

  • Has the Gantry crane received a formal annual inspection? Check for tag

Rigging and Lifting Equipment:

  • Is all rigging and lifting equipment used in the work area compliant with the current 6-monthly test schedule and tagged with a current inspection tag?

  • Are all thetic slings in a safe working condition - no signs of wear and fraying exceeding 10% of the width of the sling? No signs of edge cuts, heat damage, or knots? Refer to the Rigging Inspection Guidelines

  • Are all rigging chains and wire ropes in safe working condition free of deformation, kinking, or excessive wear? As per the Rigging Inspection Guidelines

  • Is all rigging hardware in safe working condition free of excessive wear, deformation, cracks, or damage? Are there any missing bolts, cotter pins, snap rings, or other fasteners? Refer to the Rigging Inspection Guidelines

  • Are all lifting frames & spreader bars in safe working condition and tagged?

  • Are all rigging tools used in the work area fit for duty and purpose?

  • Are taglines and pushrods available and in safe working condition?

Hand and Powered Tools

  • Are all hand tools in good condition - no cracks or faults?

  • Are the correct sized hand tools (spanners and sockets) readily available minimizing the use of shifting spanners in the work area?

  • Are there any in-house made tools in place - NB: in-house tools that are engineering designed are permissible?

  • Are all powered (air & electrical tools fit for purpose and free from defects?

  • Are all powered tools fitted with suitable guarding (where required) and handles are in place and not removed?

  • Are hoses and connection fittings for hydraulic tools and equipment in good condition and free from defects?

  • Have all hydraulic Portal power pumps and cylinders been recently (6-monthly) inspected by a 3rd Party service contractor/agency?

  • Are all electrical leads used in the work areas checked at the start of the shift to ensure they are not damaged and retested and tagged?

  • Are all air hoses used in the work area checked to ensure couplings and fittings are secured?

  • Are all electrically powered tools tested and tagged with no evidence of damaged leads (test and tag must be within 6 months of inspection)?

Other

  • Test operation of site emergency megaphones (check batteries etc.)
