Hand tools inspect for the following

  • Are the outsides of the tools free of grease, oil and accumulated foreign matter?

  • Do any of the tool have visible cracks in jaws, tips, shafts or handles?

  • Are the blades or bits damaged, cracked, etc.?

  • Are handles cracked, damaged or loose heads of hammers, axes mauls and other similar tools?

  • Do the tips of screwdrivers, chisels or other similar tools show excessive wear?

  • Are the gripping surfaces of pliers, wrenches or other similar tools worn?

  • Do tools such as chisels and punches have mushroomed heads?

  • Are cutting tools such as chisels and axes sharp?

  • Do tool appears to be in generally good condition?

Portable power tools inspect for the following (PORTABLE POWER TOOLS ONLY)

  • Are rotating or moving parts of tools guarded to prevent physical contact?

  • Any tools leaking fluids such as gasoline, oil etc.?

  • Are the blades or bits damaged, cracked, etc.?

  • Is proper PPE available to handle certain tools? (Goggles, Face Shields, etc.)

  • Are the outsides of the tools free of grease, oil and accumulated foreign matter?

  • If so equipped, are the electrical cord third prongs (ground) intact?

  • Are all shields, guards or attachments required by OSHA or manufacturer, present?

  • Does the tool(s) power-source show damage (cord, air-line, battery, etc.)?

  • The tool housings in good condition?
