Water treatment and settlement lagoons

Water courses and drainage channels

Fencing

  • Is the perimeter fence in a satisfactory condition

  • Is there adequate signage displayed ( danger deep excavation etc )

  • Is the lagoon fencing satisfactory

  • Is any other fencing required (e.g. Old mine shafts etc)

Mobile plant and equipment

  • Are operatives trained and competent

  • Have they got any licence / competency id on their person

  • Are daily plant inspections undertaken

  • Is there evidence of oil/diesel leakage

Haul roads

  • Are haul roads generally in good condition (free from boulders and deep rutting )

  • Is edge protection adequate and at least the required height

  • Are hold point signs displayed

Safe systems of work

  • Are there method statements and risk assessments for non generic tasks

  • Have all staff been briefed on the risk assessment and method statement

  • Are lifting plans in place

  • Is lifting equipment available for the task

  • Is the lifting equipment certified and tested

Welfare

Conveyors

  • Are all rollers on the conveyor ruining freely

  • Is there firefighting equipment situated near the drives

  • Are there any areas where there is a build up of coal ( I.e. near drives and return ends )

  • Is the conveyor running freely on rollers and not rubbing against any structure

  • Are lock outs and other safety devices working

Other

  • Are hand tools in good order and free from visible defects

  • Are power tools powered by battery or 110 volts

  • Are all electrical tools / equipment PAT tested

  • Are equipment,wires and cables free from signs of damage

  • Fire fighting equipment / extinguishers available

  • Is the work environment safe

  • Are all working areas adequately illuminated during times of poor light or darkness

  • Are noisy areas identified and appropriate signage in place
