Safe Operating distance between HME and LDV - 50 metre rule.

  • Are all LDVs 50 metres away from HME ?

  • Has the LDV driver given positive contact with the HME operator? Through radio , signaling with headlights or by any other means.

  • Has the HME lowered its bucket to give way to the LDV?

  • Make sure the LDV does not overtake when the HME is in motion.

  • Is the 50 metre rule taken into consideration during operation?

Safe Interaction of HME and people - working around HME

  • Is the Supervisor available , controlling the task and giving instructions instructions to his or her team?

  • Are there any people closer than 20 metres to the HME in operation?

  • Are there people any people closer than 20 metres while equipment is being moved e.g stackers, pipes skids etc

  • Does the operator of HME and people have radio communications?

  • Are there any obstructions or poor visibility between the HME operator and the people?

Working near Ponds, Paddocks , and Mining faces

  • Is there a supervisor controlling the task?

  • Has a detailed risk assessment completed by the team?

  • No HME and people are allowed to walk , work and drive closer than 10 metres to any edge of pond or paddocks that have a vertical face and have been dredged before?

Conditions to work 5 metres close to HME- applicable to areas that has open ended or where the pad has been dozed off.

  • Is there a detailed risk assessment for the task and approved by the Superitendant ?

  • Is supervisor in charge of the task?

  • Is there a flag pole and indicator to the persons working in the area?

  • The work must be completed during the day. If it's night shift a detailed risk assessment must be completed and the Superitendant informed .

Warning signs and information signs ?

  • Are warning and informative signs available and visible to employees?
