Health & Safety Inspection

Legislation

  • Are visitors, contractors & staff 'signed in' to premises using the Companion Application?

  • Is the current written H&S Policy statement of intent displayed at premises?

  • Is the statutory "Health and Safety" Law poster displayed and correctly completed?

  • Is a current Employers Liability Insurance certificate displayed at premises?

Housekeeping & welfare

  • Are site cooking and catering facilities clean, tidy and hygienic?

  • Are cleaning material store rooms / cupboards tidy and COSHH compliant?

  • Are washing facilities and toilets clean, tidy and in good state of repair?

  • Do they include supplies of hot & cold running water?

  • Is the site clean, tidy & well ventilated?

  • Are emergency lights available where loss of lighting could put people at risk?

  • Are access & egress routes clear & free from obstructions?

  • Are pedestrian traffic routes & floors free from holes, slopes, uneven or slippery surfaces?

  • Are there sufficient warning signs to identify hazards?

First Aid & COSHH

  • Are adequate numbers of first aiders available at all times at premises?

  • Are first aid kit (s) available and are contents periodically checked? Are Defibrillator's regularly checked where provided?

  • Is there a comprehensive list of all hazardous substances used or present on site?

  • Are emergency drench showers and / or eyewash stations provided in in serviceable condition?

  • Are operators aware of the control measures required when they are using or are exposed to hazardous substances?

  • Are spill kits available ? Is there any evidence of spillages on site ? Are employees aware of the systems for containing & cleaning up spillages?

  • Are chemicals and fuels properly stored with containers clearly marked?

  • Are chemical delivery procedures and controls in place (e.g. substancetank verification, overfill control, interceptors, PPE etc.)?

  • Are bunds and in good condition, free of spillages and debris?

MH PPE Safety Gear & Lifting

  • Are there any specific manual handling issues on site ? Have they been risk assessed ?

  • Are all staff trained in Manual Handling?

  • Have mechanical aids been provided to reduce manual handling hazards?

  • Is site/task specific PPE provided & used?

  • Has RPE face fit testing been carried out for users of RPE?

  • Are safety harnesses (FA, FR and C/S Rescue) lanyards and anchor points inspected, tagged and in good condition?

  • Is the date of the last Fixed Wiring Test of the site electrical system within the last five years?

  • Has all portable electrical equipment been PAT tested?

  • Are MCC rooms and control panels locked?

  • Are there sufficient socket outlets provided to prevent overloading?

  • Is work equipment fitted with guards?

  • Are machinery/plant users trained in equipment's correct & safe use?

  • Are emergency stops fitted, readily accessible & clearly marked?

  • Is equipment and / or plant being used in a controlled manner within a safe working area including appropriate fixings to Floor / Walls?

Mobile Plant

  • Is mobile plant / vehicles being used / driven by trained authorised drivers / operators?

  • Are daily checks in operation & are defects recorded and actioned?

  • Are safety devices fitted and functioning (reverse alarms, flashing beacons etc.)?

  • Are procedures for isolating pedestrians from vehicles / mobile plant in place and being adhered to?

  • Have DVLA licence checks been carried out for company drivers?

Accident & Risks

  • Is there a system to report accidents & near misses?

  • Are all employees aware of the need to report all injuries or illnesses that happen at work within agreed timeframes?

  • Are SHEQ alerts / bulletins displayed on site? Are toolbox talks regularly delivered and recorded?

Asbestos & Health

  • Has an asbestos survey been conducted and is this available at premises?

  • Has a noise risk assessment been undertaken for areas / sites with high noise levels?

  • Have DSE assessments been completed for employees who work for prolonged periods with display screen equipment?

  • Has a legionella risk assessment been completed, are controls in place and managed?

  • Have employees completed their occupational self health surveillance forms?

Work at Height

  • Is safe access and egress from positions at height adequately controlled?

  • Is appropriate (stable, strong, maintained and checked) equipment in use to allow safe work at height?

  • Are staff required to work at height trained and competent?

Vehicle Inspection 1

  • Is there any damage to the vehicle which has not been reported?

  • Is there any damage to the windscreen of the vehicle which has not been reported?

  • Are there any obstructions or devices in the swept area of the vehicles windscreen? (if there are they must be removed during the inspection)

  • Are vehicles' lights and indicators working correctly?

  • Do the vehicles tyres have sufficient tread depth and are they free of obvious damage and correctly inflated?

  • Are vehicles' Oil, Water and AdBlue levels sufficient?

  • Are any chemicals carried appropriately stored and bunded?

  • Are tools and equipment carried appropriately stored?

  • Are COSHH Assessments and MSDS's present for any chemical carried in the vehicle?

  • Are any oxidising chemicals carried in the vehicle?

  • If oxidizing chemicals are carried are they for use on the day of inspection? (if not they should be removed)

  • Are an appropriate chemical spill kits carried? (including specific spill kits for oxidizing chemicals)
