Hydronic Boiler Overhaul Checklist

Is there a water heater or hot water maker in the boiler room?

What type of ignition does the water heater have?

Has the pilot been confirmed to be clean?

Has the thermocouple successfully been replaced?

Has the pilot been confirmed to be clean?

Is the ignitor in good condition?

Has the ignitor been pulled, inspected and confirmed to be in good condition?

Are there any pumps on the hot water heating system?

Have the pumps been lubricated and confirmed to be working properly?

Is the water heater free of leaks and corrosion?

Is the water heater clean?

Does the boiler have a power burner?

Does the boiler have a front and back fire site glass that you can see through?

Are there leaks from the boiler body?

Is the boiler jacket in good shape?

Is the drain for the boiler working and clear of obstruction?

Do any of the pipes in the boiler room look like they are on the verge of collapse due to lack of support?

Is the flue/exaust piping in overall good shape?

Is there a spill switch at the vent hood?

Is there a coil on the boiler?

Is the coil free of leaks and severe corrosion?

Do the valves for the coil work?

Did the temperature fall within 120-130 degrees after testing?

Are any of the near-boiler pipes leaking or heavily corroded?

Is the relief valve the correct one for the boiler?

Are there any signs of leaks or corrosion from the relief valve?

Did the relief valve pass a spring test?

Does the relief valve have a blow down pipe that ends within 8" above grade?

Is there a backflow on the feed line?

Is the backflow free of leaks?

Is there a spiral vent/air valve?

Is it free of rust and leaks, and is it operational?

Is the expansion tank properly supported?

Is there a way to isolate and test the expansion tank?

Is the pressure on the air side of the expansion tank equal to the pressure of the water in the boiler?

Are all pumps free of leaks, oiled [if applicable] and operational? [if issues, provide specs for pump(s)]

Are the pumps making circulation? [if issues, provide specs for pump(s)]

Is the pilot automatic ignition or standing pilot?

Were you successful with cleaning all burners?

Are all burners free of holes, cracks and rust?

Are the pilot and flame sensor in good condition?

Were you successful with wiping down the boiler/flue to be free of dust and debris?

Were you successful with replacing the thermocouple and pilot tubing?

Were you successful with cleaning all burners?

Is the pilot in good condition?

Are all burners free of holes, cracks and rust?

Were you successful with wiping down the boiler/flue to be free of dust and debris?

Is the pilot line and pilot in good condition?

Are the electrodes [ignition & flame rod] in good operating condition?

Did the combustion test yield clean results? [provide pictures of final results]

Is the LWCO piped at the proper level?

Is the aquastat set properly?

Is there a temperature/pressure gauge on the boiler?

Is the pressure gauge indicator at zero when the boiler is not running for heat?

Does the chimney have a cleanout? [office to inform customer if no]

Does the chimney look clear/safe?

Is the breaching of the chimney sealed?

Is there an emergency switch outside the boiler room?

Does the switch work?

Is there a CO detector in the boiler room?

Does the boiler CO detector work? [replace battery and test, if battery operated]

Are there items stored in the boiler room that make it difficult to access the boiler?

Is there a sump pump in the boiler room?

Is the sump pump functioning?

Is there a working emergency switch by the boiler?

What kind of system control is used to control the heating?

Does thermostat work? [Replace batteries if battery-operated and test thereafter]

Are the sensors communicating with the thermostat? [replace batteries if battery-operated]
