Site Set Up & Safety

  • Is access to the site from a public road?

  • Is the access suitable for plant associated with the works?

Security

  • Has the perimeter of the site been secured adequately by heras fencing to prevent unauthorized access?

Excavations

  • Have excavations been carried out in accordance with HSG 47?

  • Have excavations been secured and signed adequately?

COSHH

  • Are COSHH designated items stored in the correct manner?

  • Have COSHH items been clearly labelled?

  • Are spill kits available?

Waste

  • Are skips/bins available for use?

  • Is waste segregated and managed in the correct manner?

  • Is waste disposed of frequently?

  • If applicable, have Waste Transfer Notes been issued and kept in site file?

First Aid & Emergency Procedure

  • Has the site emergency assembly point been clearly identified, signed and all personnel on site briefed on what to do if alarm is raised (Site Induction)?

  • Is the site address and 'In Case of Emergency Procedure' displayed?

  • Is the first aid kit available, fully stocked and fit for purpose?

  • Has the designated First Aider been identified by name, picture and contact details to all personnel and displayed in the welfare?

  • Is the emergency air horn available in the welfare?

  • Are fire extinguishers in date and positioned outside welfare door?

  • Are directions to nearest A & E available in the welfare?

Welfare

  • Are the welfare facilities adequate for the number of personnel on site?

  • Are the welfare facilities clean and fit for purpose?

  • Is hot and cold water available?

  • Is soap and paper towels available?

  • Is there a suitable area for eating food and refreshments and is it clean?

  • Is there means to heat food and boil hot water?

  • Is there access to clean drinking water?

  • Is there a sink to wash up?

  • Is there an area where clothes can be dried/stored?

Site Paperwork and Personnel

  • Has designated person been appointed to control and manage Site Paperwork?

  • Have all personnel been inducted on site?

  • Have all personnel received the necessary training and certification required?

  • Is there evidence of personnel training/certification? (CSCS/CSR minimum requirement)?

  • Is Site Attendance Register available (Sign in book)?

  • Have RAMS been reviewed and signed by all personnel on site?

  • Has POWRA (Daily Risk Assessment) been carried out?

  • Is Daily Works Sheet being filled in?

  • Are personnel aware of all significant site risks?

  • Is Daily Plant Check Sheet being filled in for plant on site?

  • Are Company Policies displayed?

  • Is Health & Safety at Work poster displayed?

  • Are there any other safety related posters displayed?

  • Is an extraction licence required? If yes, is a copy in site file?

Environmental

  • Are the works located in an environmentally sensitive area? (SSSI etc.)

  • Are there any ecological issues or restrictions affecting the works? (badger setts, newts etc)

  • Are additional measures required like proximity zones or fences?

  • Is there potential for noise to be an issue with local residents?

  • Are additional noise abatement measures required?

  • Is there potential for local watercourses to be affected by the works?

  • Are additional spill mitigation and control measures required?

  • Is the fuel bowser of double skin bunded make-up, positioned on hard-stand and away from any drains, watercourses or traffic routes?
