1.0 Training Program (Safety / Training Department)

  • Does the site have employees trained to provide first aid at the facility during work hours? This can either be an employee or a clinic, infirmary or hospital within near proximity. 3-4 minutes for emergency response in high hazard industries and up to 10 minute emergency response in office settings.

  • If the site is greater than 3-4 minutes from emergency services is CPR training provided to employees to ensure prompt response to a medical emergency such as cardiac arrest?

  • Has the site trained employees how they can receive first treatment?

2.0 First Aid Program (Safety/Medical)

  • Does the site have a first aid program? No written program is required, however the site must have policy and guidelines for first aid in the workplace.

  • Does the site have either employees who are CPR and first aid trained or have medical services that are no more than 3-4 minutes from the site?

  • If applicable, has the site been assessed for the need for first aid equipment?

3.0 First Aid Practices (Visual Inspection)

  • Are first aid kits or first aid previsions readily accessible?

  • If the site contains corrosive material, have eyewash stations been located in the immediate location of the hazard?

4.0 Employee Knowledge (Employee Questions)

  • Do employees know where they can receive first aid treatment if needed?

5.0 Documentation and Retention (Safety / Medical)

  • Are CPR and first aid training documents maintained on plant site readily accessible?

  • If applicable, Does the site maintain a log of first aid kits or medical supplies on plant-site?
