PROCESS

  • These following steps shall be followed when dealing with NON-FRIABLE ASBESTOS
    1. NOTIFICATION-
    OPTION 1 - Notify NBN Co 24 hours prior to the works commenced (or otherwise agreed by NBN Co where this is not practicable) by completing this form for any of the above scope of work activity involving Non-Friable Asbestos via email (NBN Co HSE Contractor Drop box).
    OPTION 2 - For asbestos removal works greater than 10m2 of non-friable asbestos you will need to notify the applicable Regulator using the applicable Regulator's Asbestos Notification form and Cc the NBN Co HSE Contractor Drop box. You are not required to complete this internal Non-Friable Asbestos Notification form.

    2. TRAINING AND COMPETENCY - Verify that all personnel conducting the asbestos activities have been appropriately trained, inducted into the relevant SWMS and deemed competent to perform the task in line with the Company contractual requirements for the project and legal obligations for handling and working with asbestos.

    THE FOLLOWING STEP IS REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE:
    - ROD, ROPING & HAULING: Engage only the persons who have completed an accredited Asbestos Awareness course/training or the NBN Co Asbestos Awareness Module level 2 and have been deemed competent to conduct the works;
    - REMOVING <10m2 OF NON-FRIABLE ASBESTOS: Engage only trained and competent class A or B ticketed persons to remove <10m2 of non-friable asbestos. Company shall hold a current License with the local Worksafe authority; and
    - REMOVING >10m2 OF NON-FRIABLE ASBESTOS: Engage only trained and competent class A or B ticketed persons to remove >10m2 of non-friable asbestos. Company shall hold a current License with the local Worksafe authority.

    3. JOB IDENTIFICATION: Principal Contractor shall record any work activity involving asbestos allocating a specific Job ID # for each activity. Information to make up a Job ID is FSAM FDA and Pit or Duct ID. This shall be recorded on this form, clearly recorded on the asbestos bags and recorded in the database.

    4. WASTE DISPOSAL DETAILS section shall be completed at the completion of any asbestos waste removal and email (NBN Co HSE Contractor Drop box) a copy of the completed form with the following:
    - Site Clearance Certificate attached
    - Waste Disposal Certificate attached (if applicable) and
    - Before and after site photos including time, date and GPS stamp

    NOTE: The Waste Disposal Details are also required to be completed for rod, roping and hauling activities that involve the removal of asbestos waste.
