LOOSE SCALING OPERATION

  • Is PPE available with good conditions?

  • Is inspection done at the workplace and documenting it on "workplace Inspection Sheet"?

  • Is the area accesible?(No power, air and water)

  • Is the area identified for loose scaling?

  • Is Loose scaling rod in good condition?

  • Is the retreat area cleared?

  • Is the person maintaining the scaling bar at a 45°angle?

  • Is the applied force onto the bar downword?

  • Is the height less than 3.5m?

  • Is the area being sounded be atleast 1.3m away from where the person standing?

  • Is the area barricaded?

  • Is the person standing under supported ground?

  • If scaling is not successful, did the person fence the area and reported to the shift supervisor?

  • Did the person hold the bar to one side of his body?

  • Is the bar less then 3m if it is aluminium bar and less then 1.8m if it is steel bar?

  • Is the mannual scaling method from elevated platform (Scissor lift) for heading more than 3.5m is available?

  • Is the crew member applying correct hand signals before climbing the platform?

  • Is only one person entering the scissors lift platform at ground level?

  • Prior to using scissor lift, whether all the tools and equipments are correctly stowed and that all loose objects and waste loose rocks are removed or not?

  • Is the scaling screw visible to the scissor lift operator? If not; is a second person placed in a visible position to relay signal between the person in elevated platform and the operator of scissor lift?

  • Is the fall arrest equipment being used while working from scissors lift at height?

  • Is any person working under elevated platform?

  • Is any person found within 10meters without permission from the machine operator?

  • Did the scissor lift operator left the machine on operationg mode with the person working in scissor lift?

  • Is the scissor lift in stationary position? If it is moving followed by any signals from personnel involed in Scaling?

  • Is scissor lift in good condition? If any damage or faults with it, is it reported for rectification?

  • Is only one person allowed in the scissor lift?

  • Is the scissor lift placed at safe distance to the front and away from scaling?
