  • Is there a valid Hot Work Permit in place?

  • Take a photo of the Permit and the Register

  • Is there a fire extinguisher located close to where the Hot Works is being performed?

  • Are welding screens used?

  • Do the screens prevent sparks/hot slag/flame/arc flash to other workers?

  • Are there any areas below the Hot Works? Has it been barricaded off and warning signs posted?

  • Are there barriers erected to prevent non-combustible materials from coming into contact with sparks, flames?

  • Has the atmosphere been tested if flammable or explosive gases or vapors may be present?

  • Have open drains, pits or sewers been covered to prevent Hot Works emissions entering those areas?

  • Has a minimum distance (approximately 15 meters radius) been established around the Hot Works areas?

  • All combustible materials moved away from where hot work is to be undertaken

  • Take a photo of the area.

  • Have all combustible materials that are immovable, been protected from contact with the Hot Works?

  • Is correct PPE being worn for the task ( e.g.approved face shield or helmet with a filtered lens for welding)

  • Is double eye protection used when welding, cutting and grinding

  • Are fire blankets required, are they in place and available?

  • Are all electrical extension leads and Oxy/Acetylene hoses kept as far as possible away form the Hot Works?

  • Are welding leads stored appropriately and not on top of welding machine?

  • Are all angle grinders being operated in accordance with procedures? <br>Note: (230mm (9 inch) angle grinders are banned)

  • Are welding rod stubs disposed of into a bin?

  • Are all gas cylinders secured, gauges operative, flashback arrestors fitted at the cylinder end and handset end and hoses in good condition?

  • If specified on the Hot Work Permit, is there a Fire-watcher in place?

  • Have all welding leads and Oxy/Acetylene hoses been inspected prior to use?

  • Are electric welding machines equipped with voltage regulator devices (VRD) and welding return (also known as earth lead) directly on the work piece?
