  • This drill should be conducted with little or no previous warning. This drill will not be briefed. The object of the drill is to test the operational readiness of the crew in an emergency situation. and it will decided what the drill scenario will consists of. NOTE: If this an interior drill, it will be a dry drill
    All drills are to be conducted safely. No risks are to be taken. If at any time, there is a risk to the safety of Crew or other persons, the drill should be stopped immediately.

Drill Evaluation

  • The timing of emergency drills should be changed in order to allow those crew members to participate who have not attended the previous drills because of duties. A fire drill scenario is the preferred scenario as will encompass all skills
    The location of the drills should be changed to give practice to the crew in different conditions and to train them to tackle different types of fire such as engine room fire, galley fire, accommodation area fire, store room fire, etc.…

  • The drill will start with sounding the fire alarm for not less than 10 seconds.

  • Was the correct alarmed used?

  • Did the captain role play calling other vessels & office?

  • At the sound of the fire alarm, has every single crew member joined their designated station?

  • If no, please outline the defficiencies

  • How long did it take for all the crew to reach their designated station?

  • Was a role call carried and all accounted for?

  • Did the fire teams use the correct fire equipment for the type of fire that they are practicing for?

  • Did the fire team suit up in a timely and correct manner? How long? Name of fire team:

  • Did the fire team use the correct type of extinguisher for the fire?

  • Were the fire pumps correctly set up and in a timely manner? How long? Name of pump team

  • What was the type of fire in the scenario?

  • While the firefighting team were preparing to fight the fire, was the rest of the crew preparing for any further action? IE crew members must not be permitted to stand around and be ready to abandon ship

  • Did the fire team kept the bridge up-to-date with development of the fire?

  • We assume the fire was too severe and we had to evacuate the vessel . One crew member in the fire team also got injured.

  • Did the officers order to abandon ship?

  • Did the officers role-played contacting the authorities?

  • Were tenders being prepared and life rafts being prepared to launch?

  • Did the crew on duty gathered supplies & emergency equipment?

  • Was the first aid kit ready?

  • Has the serious injury designated crew treated well the injured crew member?

  • Were all evacuation routes clear allowing easy exits?

  • Were any crew standing around?

  • If you had to score the success rate of the drill, what score would you give it? 1 being poor and 10 excellent
