Traffic and Vehicles

  • Any H&S actions identified shall be entered onto Audit/Inspection Action Log and brought to the urgent attention of the appropriate personnel as soon as possible. Contractor/Project Manager to be notified of actions required/taken.

  • S = Satisfactory, U = Unsatisfactory, O = Observation, NA = Not Applicable

  • Is there a Traffic Management Plan for the project and are all parties who require knowledge of it aware of its contents?

  • How is the Traffic Management Plan communicated to relevant persons?

  • Has the plan been distributed to all the Emergency Services and have they all acknowledged receipt of the Plan?

  • Is the Plan provided to delivery drivers as well as those permanent on the Project? Are drivers made aware of the emergency procedures?

  • Are the copies of the Plan which are with drivers the most up to date versions?

  • Are drivers on site in possession of the latest version of the Traffic Management Plan?<br><br>Are the requirements of the Traffic Management Plan being adhered to by all drivers?

  • Have separate pedestrian, vehicle access points and routes around the site been provided? If not, are vehicles and pedestrians kept separate wherever possible?

  • Are project vehicles parked so as not to pose a hazard to the public?

  • Are speed restrictions in force on site with speed limit signs posted and the system enforced?

  • Have one-way systems or turning points been provided to minimize the need for reversing?

  • Where vehicles have to reverse, are they controlled by properly trained banksmen?

  • Are vehicles securely loaded and is the load adequately secured while vehicle is traveling?

  • Are passengers prevented from riding in dangerous positions?

  • Is adequate secondary braking available on all vehicles? (Include tracked vehicles).

  • Are all road crossings clearly signed, and are the hazard warning signs well maintained?

  • Is there a suitable level of visibility at all road crossings?

  • How is crossing of roads by large vehicles managed?

  • Are the speed restrictions on the site adhered to?

  • Are all items of major plant under the control of a Banksman during works operations?

  • Is there a road sweeper available on the project for the clearing of public roads?

  • Are Tremcards carried the driver of vehicles carrying fuels and gases? Are the vehicles displaying the correct warning placards?

  • Do all drivers have the correct certification/ qualifications? Are copies of licenses taken?

  • Is certification retained for all vehicles?

  • Does the vehicle have adequate roll-over protection and protection from falling objects if required?

  • Are seat belts fitted to the vehicle and are they used e.g. on dumpers, rollers and Ramax?

  • What maintenance regime is there for vehicles and plant on the project? What records are kept from this?

  • What checks are carried out on hired in plant and vehicles?
