Mr. Electric Home Safety Check-Up
-
Main meter panel, breakers & fuses disconnect are wired correctly & in operating condition.
-
Additional important information for customer. Your electrical panel contains fuses or circuit breakers rated at higher currents than the ampacity and may not be wired properly. The fact that you can’t see most of your house’s wiring means that many electrical hazards aren’t discovered until it’s too late and can lead to a fire.
-
Main meter panel has correct overhead clearance.
-
Additional important information for customer. Overhead clearance in main panel is a potential hazard.
-
Point-of-access connections are encased & protected.
-
Additional important information for customer.
Additional protection needed for point-of-access connections. -
Disconnects, fuses &breakers are sized correctly.
-
Additional important information for customer. A fuse(s) or circuit breaker(s) is needed in any electrical system (AC or DC). These protection devices react to the amount of heat being produced by electricity passing through wires and/or components. They are used to protect wires and components from the extreme heat produced should there be an electrical overload or short circuit.By having the wrong sized disconnects, fuses and breakers it may cause your electrical system to not be protected adequately which could result in a home fire.
-
Electric to HVAC (heating, ventilating & air conditioning) is in operating condition.
-
Additional important information for customer. The following conditions were noted:
- Fusing and/or wiring is inappropriately sized
- Different type fuses installed
- electrical wiring and/or conduit shows damage
-
Smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors are installed & working. If over 10 years old, recommend replacement.
-
Additional important information for customer. Every year approximately 3000 people die each year in the U.S. in result to home fires. It is very common for people to remove the batteries when the smoke alarm sound goes off. The dangerous thing is that since the beeping is no longer annoying us, we forget to replace the batteries which can result in great loss and damage. The other deadly danger is carbon monoxide. It is the leading cause of poisonous deaths. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and deadly gas.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors
- Install smoke detectors on each level as needed
- Battery at smoke detector appears to be missing or in need of replacement
- Smoke detectors are inappropriately located
-
Proper surge protection to help prevent major damage to the home, garage and business electrical system, appliances and computer.
-
Additional important information for customer. A lightning storm, a bird or animal hitting a power line or transformer, or a freak accident. Any of those incidents, and many others, can cause a power surge, which is a spike in the amount of electricity that's moving through the power lines into your home. A surge can bring with it anywhere from five to 10 times the normal amount of electricity.
-
Accessible Kitchen receptacles are in operating condition.
-
Additional important information for customer. A ground fault happens whenever electricity escapes the confines of the wiring in a kitchen appliance or light fixture and takes a shortcut to the ground. When that short cut is through a human, the results can be deadly. About 200 people in the U.S. alone die of ground faults each year, accounting for two-thirds of all electrocutions occurring in homes.
-
Adequate safety and security lighting.
-
Additional important information for customer. Adequate outdoor lighting is a benefit not only because it can make your property more aesthetically pleasing, but also because it drastically increases safety and security. At Mr. Electric we offer a wide range of outdoor lighting options that would fit your needs perfectly

Additional important information for customer.
Recommend GFCI protection in all locations near water for safety reasons -
Locations needing GFCI protection:
- bathroom(s)

- garage
- exterior

-
Additional important information for customer. An exhaust fan is a fan which is used to control the interior environment by venting out unwanted odors, particulates, smoke, moisture, and other contaminants which may be present in the air.
-
Laundry area electrical system is in operating condition.
-
Additional important information for customer. Washing = water, of course, and water and electricity don't mix well. Outlets in the laundry room should have a ground fault circuit interrupter. An ungrounded faulty appliance anywhere can be a hazard because you could become a connection to ground for escaped electricity.
