  • What you need to know
    In order to provide workers, including lone and out‐of‐hours workers, with a safe working environment, means of
    getting to and from it and the appropriate tools and materials for the job, planning and a risk assessment must be
    undertaken before work begins.

  • What you need to do
    Prepare a risk assessment daily whilst considering what resources are needed to complete the job safely. Liaise with
    workers and others involved, ensuring all hazards are identified and suitable controls implemented to eliminate or
    reduce the risks.

Part 1. STOP-Before you start

  • Are you at the correct site, in a fit and healthy state to start work?

  • Do you have the right competencies for the task?

  • Is there a suitable and sufficient planned scheme of work for what is proposed?

  • Have the project RAMS been reviewed?

  • If a lone worker, is the MHLS SSoW sufficient for safe work on this site?

  • Do you have the right PPE for the job?

  • If you have answered ‘No’ to any of the above, take the required action and/or report to your supervisor
    If in doubt always ask!

  • If any control measures are deemed insufficient to continue safely STOP WORK and report to your supervisor
