Autoclaves

  • Autoclaves are serviced bi-annually by VWR (currently). The contact for this is David Holden *insert details*
They are required to be done at a minimum annually to ensure they are properly pressurising and sterilising as they need to.
In addition, monthly biological testing needs to be conducted to ensure the sterilisation process is working - Stacey usually does the testing for 5&7 and a member of the SRT/GM group generally does level 6. It might be a good thing to take this back as a job though. It's really simple and will allow greater control over when it's done and also streamline of purchasing the consumables needed for the process. SRT/GM also regularly cleaned the level 6 autoclave but the others were never done with such regularity - again, this is best taken on as a task to ensure this gets done.
Maybe worth combining the testing with the defrost or clean of the -80*C freezers and use the clothes, that will need autoclaving before exit, as the bulk in the Autoclaves for the tests (they recommend not doing the biological testing in any empty autoclave).
