Testing

Whiteness

  • Perform the following tests to ensure that the product meets the company's product quality expectations.

  • Is the sheet white and contains no graphics?

  • Whiteness Test- Using the X-Rite or BYK Color Value Tools, measure the L*a*b* color values and record them below. If you do not know how to use either of these tools, please ask the PRODUCTION MANAGER for assistance.

  • L* Color Value (between 0-100)

  • a* Color Value (between -128 and +128)

  • b* Color Value (between -128 and +128)

  • Whiteness Test Complete

  • STOP! COLOR VALUES MUST BE TAKEN. IF NEEDED, ASK PRODUCTION MANAGER FOR ASSISTANCE.

De-Lamination Testing

  • Does the Sheet/ Item contain a performance cap? Does the sheet/ item contain a protective film or liner?

  • De-Lamination testing not needed. Continue with inspection.

  • Will this product go through the imaging process?

  • STOP!! Double check with the supervisor! This product likely has a performance cap that will need to be tested for de-lamination.

  • Initial De-Lamination Test- Using a box cutter or knife, make a small cut about an inch away from one of the corners of the sheet (DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE SHEET!). Pull up on the corner in a peeling motion (like you would peel a banana) to try and remove the coating.
    Bend the cut corner until breaks.
    If possible, attempt to peel or tear the laminated coating off of the sheet.

  • Did the coating on the sheet de-laminate or peel off of the sheet?

  • STOP! NOTIFY THE PRODUCTION MANAGER IMMEDIATELY OF THE SITUATION. ASK FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

  • De-Lamination Test Complete

  • STOP!! Double check with the supervisor! This product likely has a performance cap that will need to be tested for de-lamination.

  • STOP! NOTIFY THE PRODUCTION MANAGER IMMEDIATELY OF THE SITUATION. ASK FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

  • De-Lamination Test Complete

  • STOP!! Check with supervisor and double check packaging for product information. Most products with performance caps will need a liner. This item may be incorrect!

  • Is item correct?

  • See supervisor and begin the Item/ Material Rejection process (or RMA Process).

  • Initial De-Lamination Test- Using a box cutter or knife, make a small cut about an inch away from one of the corners of the sheet (DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE SHEET!). Pull up on the corner in a peeling motion (like you would peel a banana) to try and remove the coating.
    Bend the cut corner until breaks.
    If possible, attempt to peel or tear the laminated coating off of the sheet.

  • Did the coating on the sheet de-laminate or peel off of the sheet?

  • STOP! NOTIFY THE PRODUCTION MANAGER IMMEDIATELY OF THE SITUATION. ASK FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

  • De-Lamination Test Complete

Imaging Test

  • Is this sheet going to have an image added to it?

  • Image Test- Using the sheet used in the De-Lamination test (if required), add an image to the sheet.

  • Does the Sheet take an image with good clarity and finish (Assuming the parameters are correct)?

  • Image Test Complete

  • STOP! INFORM PRODUCTION MANAGER IMMEDIATELY. ASK FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

Form Testing

  • Is this material used for a formed product?

  • Form Test- Take the Sheet used in the Image Test and have it formed using the correct form for the Image on the Sheet.

  • Did the Sheet form properly? (No de-lamination, cracks, smeared images, burns, etc.?)

  • STOP! FILL IN THIS SECTION WITH THE DEFECTS DISCOVERED AFTER FORMING. THEN, INFORM THE PRODUCTION MANAGER OF THE SITUATION. ASK FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

  • Form Test Complete

Secondary De-Lamination Test

  • Perform the Secondary De-Lamination Test if the imaged material contains a performance cap.

    After adding an image to the sheet, follow the same procedure as the Initial De-Lamination test. Initial De-Lamination Test- Using a box cutter or knife, make a small cut about an inch away from one of the corners of the sheet (DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE SHEET!). Pull up on the corner in a peeling motion (like you would peel a banana) to try and remove the coating.

  • Did the coating on the sheet de-laminate or peel off of the sheet?

  • STOP! NOTIFY THE PRODUCTION MANAGER IMMEDIATELY OF THE SITUATION. ASK FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

  • Secondary De-Lamination Test Complete

Audit Completion

Inspection finalization

  • Summarize any damage found on shipment or on product.

  • Is Product Damaged or incorrect in some way?

  • Has the Project Manager/ Purchasing been notified of damaged product?

  • STOP! PROJECT MANAGEMENT/ PURCHASING MUST BE NOTIFIED OF ANY DAMAGE SO THE VENDOR CAN BE NOTIFIED.

  • Total number of sheets/ items received.

  • Total number of defective items.

  • NOTE: After product has been inspected, add a DATED AND SIGNED colored inspection tag to the product.
    GREEN: Product is good and may be used.
    YELLOW: Product needs further action. ACCEPTED (TEMPORARILY) AT RISK.
    PINK: Product is rejected, CANNOT BE USED, DO NOT PLACE INTO INVENTORY, QUARANTINE IMMEDIATELY.
