Equipment and machinery

The nature of the vessel is such that there are no machine or workshop areas and no stored gas cylinders

  • Tools are used by qualified personnel?

  • Is lifting equipment colour coded and free from defects

  • Use and maintenance manuals of machinery are available

  • Are guards / dead-man devices / safety valves available and regularly used?

  • Is general ventilation and local exhaust system (where necessary) provided?

  • Is hose integrity maintained? (Wear degree, pinch points, route path, adequate couplings)

  • The control panels are of a suitable height to allow the operator to have an optimal field of view on both the controls and the controlled machinery

  • Emergency pushbuttons are present in every console, and they are protected against accidental pushing

  • Location (for pushbuttons) and movement (for levers and handwheels) of controls are consistent with their effect

Winches

No mechanically operated or automated winches or winch systems are present on the vessel

  • Devices are fitted to ensure safe operation of the winches (such as: load limiting device, end of stroke device, protection of the drum, safety device against accidental operation, fail‐safe/negative braking system - closes automatically in case of power loss-)

  • Moving transmission parts (e.g., shafts, gears, belts) shall be

  • positioned or guarded to be protect against any accidental contact with exposed persons

  • Winches shall be equipped withba device which prevents the loadfrom running back unintentionally

  • Winches shall be provided with an emergency stop function

  • It shall not be possible for the ropes to run off the side of the rope drums

Spill Management

  • Are the bunkering areas provided with containment system (e.g., coamings) to avoid direct discharge into the sea in case of pipe leak?

  • The instructions for proper bunkering operations are available in the bunkering areas?

  • Is adequate spill response equipment available at key locations as per SOPEP?

  • Are Spill Kit provided with an inventory of stored material?

  • Does the Kit content match with the inventory?

  • Are drains free and not obstructed?

Waste Management

  • Is the waste storage provided with an adequate number and typology of bins/skips?

  • Is the waste segregation carried out properly without mixing different types of waste?

  • Are the waste skips and containers in the storage areas properly labelled (e.g., clear marking into hazardous and non-hazardous waste with clear signage)?

  • When outdoor, are the waste bins sea fastened and do they have the lid closed in order to avoid the sea/rainwater infiltration?

  • Are the hazardous waste storage areas provided with proper containment systems? (e.g., coamings)

  • Has appropriate training been provided to persons involved in incineration activities?

  • Is there a list of authorized operators in charge to use the incinerator?

  • Are the incinerator ashes properly disposed and recorded as required by applicable regulations?

  • Are smoking areas provided with ash trays suitable (and clean) for the working environment?

Management of hazardous substances

No hazardous substances are kept onboard the vessel

  • Is there an MSDS register available for hazardous substances present in chemical storage areas?

  • Are hazardous substances properly labelled?

  • Are there adequate signs in the storage area?

  • Is there adequate ventilation when working with chemicals and in storage area?

  • Are hazardous substances stored in appropriate conditions?

  • (Secondary containment where needed, etc.)

  • Are there spill kit available in the hazardous substances’ storage areas?

  • Are Spill Kit provided with an inventory of stored material?

  • Hydraulic systems that may spill directly into waterways or soil are filled with bio‐degradable or eco‐friendly oil

  • Work equipment containing fuel or oil is fitted with drip trays to contain possible spills

  • Are there any unlabelled container present in worksites?
