Pre Start Checklist

  • A Pre Start Checklist must be completed at the beginning of every shift or before operating other machinery during the shift. These are intended as a minimum standard and should not override specific Plant requirements and the client's site requirements.

1.0 CATEGORY (A) MINOR DEFECTS

  • Drill Rigs with MINOR defects may operate. Defects are to be reported as an action item, communicated to the Supervisor / Maintenance staff immediately.

  • Walk Around Inspection – Leaks, Hazards, Damage

  • Mud Pump, Water Pump, Pressure Washer – Oil, Fuel leaks

  • General Housekeeping

  • CDS Asset #, Control Panel Labels and Warning Labels/Stickers (Present & legible)

  • Access/Egress (Ladders, self-closing gates and walkways)

  • Cooler Pack Clean

  • All Gauges Working

  • All Grease Points Greased

2.0 CATEGORY (B) MODERATE FAULTS

  • Drill Rigs with MODERATE defects may only operate with approval from the Shift Supervisor.
    Defects are reported as an action item to Supervisor/Fitter immediately, AND the Supervisor/Fitter has been consulted for approval and this pre start sign off has been completed by the authorising person.

  • Hydraulic Hoses – Wear, Leaks, Connections

  • Water Hoses & Whip Checks/Shackles – Wear, Leaks, Connections, Valves

  • Check Oil Levels – Engine, Hydraulics, Bean Pump, Rotation Head and Funk Box (If applicable)

  • Other Fluid Levels - Fuel, Coolant, AdBlue

  • Start Up/Warning Alarms

  • Condition of Break Out (Inserts and greased)

  • Condition of Subs/Haul Plug (Threads, greased and inspections current)

  • Condition of Foot Clamps (Inserts and greased)

  • Condition of Rod Spinner (Inserts, alignment and greased)

  • Condition of Overshot Assembly & Safety Chain (Splice, inspection current, lifting dogs)

  • Condition of Track Base (Frame, Rollers, Plates)

  • Remote Condition/Operation (All functions work and free from damage)

  • Batteries – Water Level, Cables Conditions

  • Mast Lights Operational

3.0 CATEGORY (C) MAJOR DEFECTS

  • Drill Rigs with MAJOR defects may only operate with approval from Maintenance Manager or Core Drilling Management.
    Defects are reported as an action item to Management / Maintenance Manager immediately, AND Management / Maintenance Manager has been consulted for approval and this pre start sign off has been completed by the authorising person.

  • Check For Any Tags – Isolation Switch (Ensure they're clearly labelled and operational)

  • Check Fire Extinguishers and Fire Suppression are tagged and in date

  • Inspect Fan, Guards, Belts – Ensure Good Condition

  • Check Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is in date

  • What is the next expiry date of the PRV/S

  • Rotation Cage/Proximity Switches working correctly

  • How did you test the function of this proxy?

  • Deadman Switch/Overrides are Operational (Breakout/Rod Spinner slew. If applicable)

  • Winch/Wireline Limiters Operational?

  • Check condition of Winch Rope /Wireline (Wear, Condition & Certification)

  • Mast Pivot Points/ Stay Rods

  • Check E-Stops (Push to engage, twist to reset), ensure they're clearly identifiable and labelled

  • Check manual actuators – ensure safety pins and anti-tamper ties are in place and that all secure, clean, undamaged and accessible
