Maintenance Procedures

  • Remove any obstruction which hinders accessibility

  • Outlets must be at least 18 inches above ground or floor and the hydrant in plumb position

  • Check for leakage at hose outlet, etc

  • Examine condition of gaskets, packing gland, and threads

  • Examine barrel for cracks

  • Remove outlet caps, check for ease of removal, replace all, but one 2 1/2 “ cap

  • Flush hydrant and check water flow. Flush until water is clear

  • Check for leaks

  • If drain is manually plugged, pump water out of barrel

  • Lubricate all threads

  • Check to see that nozzle caps are hand tight
