Safety Guidelines

  • If a person must enter the tank, test for low oxygen levels, and supply proper respirator as needed

  • Safety harness must be worn

  • Schedule work with operating personnel

  • Follow site safety rules and your supervisor's instructions

  • Check with operating personnel for deficiencies

  • Report any problems you find

  • Record the results in the equipment maintenance log

Maintenance Procedures

  • Remove the tank access covers

  • Pump sludge from bottom of tank and flush. Dispose of properly

  • Examine tank for leaks, condition of piping connections

  • Check floats and leveling devices in tank. Check float adjustment with dept level indicators

  • Clean breather vents, conservation vents, and flame arrestors

  • Clean up work area and remove all debris

  • Validate operation of automatic controls including leak and level detection

  • Draw a fuel sample and send out for analysis
