2. Discussion Checklist

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • PPE for all Skips & Waste personnel can be obtained from reception or the mezzanine office. This includes: - P2 masks - Ear plugs - Gloves - High-vis clothing - Safety glasses IMPORTANT! All PPE must be worn at all times with no exceptions. This includes: - Steel boots - High-vis clothing

Pre-Start Inspections

  • - All operators MUST complete a pre-start inspection/checklist prior to the operation of the plant/machine with all documents provided to upper management. FAILED PRE-START/FAULTY EQUIPMENT: - Faulty equipment must be reported immediately to management. - Plant/machine use is not permitted until cleared by the operations manager.

Exit Doors

  • - All pathways leading to exit doors must be free of any obstructions at all times. - All staff are responsible for the consistent identification of all potential obstructions to pathways on exit doors. - The site manager must be notified IMMEDIATELY when obstructions are found.

Working Hours

  • - Monday – Friday: 7AM – 5PM - Saturday: 7AM – 3PM - Sunday: CLOSED These hours are subject to change based on the discretion of the site manager All personnel MUST inform the site manager if they can’t attend work if unwell. If annual leave is required, a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice is required.

Lunch Breaks

  • All personnel must inform the site manager prior to leaving their work post for a lunch break.

House Keeping

  • When bins are tipped into other bins, personnel must ensure all fallen debris is collected and contained.

Moving Plant

  • - All staff are NOT permitted to walk behind moving plat at ANY TIME. “If you cannot see the driver, he cannot see you”. - Personnel MUST identify movements to nearby plant/equipment operators for confirmation and acknowledgement. The operator is then required to confirm visual contact with you by beeping the plant’s horn. - All plant operators MUST beep their horn when moving, reversing or redirecting arms, booms, attachments, etc. - A 6-meter exclusion zone between other plant and personnel MUST be maintained at ALL times. If personnel have to enter the exclusion zone for any reason, the operator must be notified and all plant work MUST cease IMMEDIATELY.

Opening Facility

  • - Staff MUST ensure all bins are in the correct storage locations. - Staff MUST ensure all plant is cleaned prior to operation.

Closing Facility

  • - Staff MUST ensure all bins are empty and are prepared for use for the following day. - Staff MUST ensure the road, walkway and exit doors are cleaned. - Staff MUST ensure all hazardous materials are correctly stored in accordance with legislative requirements.

Communication & Consultation

  • - Toolbox talks will be held weekly to outline hazards, risks and controls. - Personnel are advised to consult with management if hazards or risks are identified. - If personnel are unhappy with the newly initiated communication policy, please advise upper management so adjustments can be made (If plausible). - Personnel are encouraged to bring up concerns when they’re discovered. - If personnel have comments, please don’t hesitate to bring them forward once this toolbox talk has concluded.

SWMS

  • - All personnel must read, understand, acknowledge and sign all relative SWMS. - Individual SWMS have been developed for the following operations: o Excavators o Forklifts o Front End Loaders o Trommel Screens o Manual Handling & General Labour - All personnel are obligated to conform to the SWMS regardless of any disagreements with the newly implemented rules/procedures. - Personnel found failing in their obligations to conform with the SWMS will be immediately removed from the project, with further action taken under consideration by upper management. - Any additional adjustments, suggestions or additions personnel may have are promoted and will be implemented in the SWMS, after careful assessment. - Any queries regarding the SWMS can be brought up either in person, via mobile or email.

Material Sorting

  • - All waste/materials MUST be sorted correctly as per the directive of the site manager. This means: o Metal must be sorted individually (Sorted separately) o Copper must be sorted individually (Sorted separately) o Aluminium must be sorted individually (Sorted separately) o Soil must be sorted individually (Sorted separately) o Concrete must be sorted individually (Sorted separately)
