Access to Site

  • Can everyone get to their place of work safely and work there safely?

  • Is the site tidy and are the materials stored safely e.g free from trip hazardsand excessive combustible material?

  • Is lighting adequate in and around the site?

  • Are relevant safety signs in place

Welfare

  • Are toilets readily available, kept clean and properly lit?

  • Are there washbasins, hot and cold running water, soap and towels?

  • Is there a place where workers can sit, make hot drinks and prepare food?

  • Is drinking water and cups provided?

  • Are welfare facilities kept warm and well ventilated?

Working At Height

  • Has a Risk Assessment been carried out and have suitable precautions been identified to make sure work can be carried out safely?

  • Has avoiding work at height by using a different work method or equipment been considered?

  • Is equipment being used that will reduce the risk of a fall, such as scaffolding or a MEWP?

  • Are edges which people or objects could fall from provided with double guard rails or other suitable edge protection?

Scaffolding

  • Are tower scaffolds erected and being used in accordance with supplier's instructions?

  • Are the wheels of the tower scaffold locked when in use and are the platforms empty when they are moved?

  • Are double hand rails and toe boards installed on the tower scaffold?

  • Has the tower scaffold been inspected and recorded by a competent person?

  • Have Tube and Fitting scaffolds been erected, altered and dismantled by competent people? Are all guard rails and toe boards in place and has a competent person inspected the scaffold at least once a week and recorded the inspection?

Manual Handling

  • Has the need for manual handling been considered?

  • Are handling aids being used if practicable e.g sack trucks, trolleys etc?

  • Have people been instructed how to use lifting aids and trained how to lift safely?

Plant, Tools & Machinery

  • Are vehicles and pedestrians kept apart by using barriers, signs etc?

  • Are vehicles, plant, tools and machinery properly maintained or tested?

  • Are dangerous parts guarded?

  • Is suitable PPE being worn?

  • Are users competent and trained?

Emergency Procedures

  • Are there emergency procedures in place in the event of a fire or an accident?

  • Does everyone know what the procedures are?

  • Is there a means of raising the alarm

  • Is there a method to contact the emergency services from the site?

  • Are there sufficient escape routes and are they kept clear?

  • Is there sufficient first aid provision i.e equipment and trained personnel?

  • Are suitable fire extinguishers available?

Electricity

  • Have the necessary electrical services been provided on site with suitable trip devices, protection and test certification?

  • Are low voltage tools and equipment being used?

  • Are cables and leads suitable and are they protected from damage?

  • Are electrical tools and equipment checked by users and regularly Inspected and tested by a competent person every three months- i.e PAT tested?

Protecting The Public

  • Is the site fenced off from the public and signed if necessary?

  • Are the public protected from falling materials?

  • Is the site secure during and after work?
