GUIDANCE

  • This procedure should be adopted whenever a runway is operating under reduced distances.

    a. BIAL will issue a NOTAM, where possible, at least 24hrs prior to the work taking place.

    b. ADC will issue an ATIS broadcast, 30min prior to the reduction taking place, stating:
    "Runway xx will be operating reduced length at time xxxx as per NOTAM XX/XXXX".

RUNWAY REDUCTION

  • Runway length reduced at:

  • Add signature

ADC ACTIONS

  • 1. BIAL ADM will:

  • a. Co-ordinate with ADC via RTF to confirm that the runway can be reduced.

  • b. Place the appropriate CAP168 marker boards on the runway.

  • c. Black-out the appropriate edge lights.

  • 2. ADC should:

  • a. Be aware that inbound aircraft which have already received the latest information may not be aware that the runway is, or is being reduced.

  • b. Liaise closely with APC before reducing runway length.

  • 3. ADC will update ATIS with the following message: "Runway XX is operating reduced length, LDA is XXXXm, TODA is XXXXm".

  • 4. Regardless of whether or not a pilot has reported that he is in receipt of the latest information ADC MUST receive acknowledgement of the following message via RTF: "Confirm that you are aware that runway XX is operating at reduced distances".

  • 5. Prior to issuing take-off clearance/landing clearance, the following strip must be placed in the traffic display: RUNWAY REDUCED "Confirm that you are aware that runway XX is operating at reduced distances"

  • 6. Switch off ILS if required.

APC ACTIONS

  • 1. Regardless of whether or not a pilot has reported that he is in receipt of the latest information APC MUST receive acknowledgement of the following message via RTF: "Confirm that you are aware that runway XX is operating at reduced distances"

  • 2. Before the aircraft has reached 15nm from touchdown, the following strip must be placed in the traffic display: RUNWAY REDUCED "Confirm that you are aware that runway XX is operating at reduced distances"

RUNWAY RETURNED TO FULL LENGTH

  • BIAL ADM will:

    a. Co-ordinate with ADC via RTF to confirm that the runway is re-instated to full length.

    b. Remove the appropriate CAP168 marker boards on the runway.

    c. Return the appropriate edge lights to service.

    d. Advise ADC via RTF that runway XX is available full length.

  • ADC will:

  • a. Remove all relevant messages from ATIS.

  • b. Remove the strip from their display.

  • c. Advise APC that runway XX is operating full length.

  • APC will:

  • a. Advise all inbound aircraft that runway XX is operating full length.

  • b. Remove the strip from their display.

  • ATC WM (SCOD)

  • ADC
